Page 6 New Intercultural Club Founded Hie Wilkes Community College Intercultural Club was founded on September 11,2007. New elected officers are, President: Yessenia Alvarez, Vice President: Enrique Rubio-Reyes, Secretary: Matt Jennings, Treasurer: Theresa Vaughn, Office-at-Large: Josh McGrady. Committee Chairs are. Cultural Celebration: Matt Jennings, Educational Outreach: Karliss Binkley. Dr. Karen Staten, Global Education Director, will be the advisor for the club. The meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at Noon in the Global Education Offices Hayes Hall Room 415. Day of the Dead Holiday Celebrated The club would like to invite the college wide community to an Open House for the new Global Education offices. This event will be held on Thursday, November 1,2007. To promote intercultural awareness, the open house is scheduled on the Spanish holiday. Day of the Dead. This holiday is celebrated in several places in the world and the emphasis of the holiday is to honor the lives of the deceased and celebrate the continuation of life. Join us for traditional Day of the Dead with food, drink, holiday decorations, fun facts, and history. Garland The WCC Human Services club is an organization with a purpose that focuses on personal values, motivation, orientation towards human service work, interpersonal relationships, and communication skills. It also seeks to provide mentors for human service students. Membership requirements are enrollment in the Human Services Technology program, interest in development of self, community, and motivation to set a professional example in the human care field. However, anyone wishing to help with club fund-raisers and activities are welcome as honorary members. Upcoming events that the club will be involved in include. These Hands Don’t Hurt, Fall Festival at WCC, October 25*, and Trunk or Treats, Halloween night. The Human Services Club is very concerned with the well-being of the community. Many fund-raisers are held in order to help agencies and individuals that need assistance. Some examples are: Selling raffle tickets to help nursing home residents, sponsoring Christmas in Wilkes, and other referrals concerning those in need in the community. Hie club funds are used to help with the needs of the community, and MerleFest is the biggest fund-raiser for the club. Rainbow Center: Culinary Club Fund Raiser By: Rainbow L. Cowan Next month, the WCC Culinary Club holds their 4* annual Bake Sale Fund Raiser for Wilkesboro’s Rainbow Center (The Rainbow House). Last year, the WCC Culinary Club collected over $4000 with this years goal is $4500. November 5-16 we will be collecting orders for these wonderful, delectable, sweet sensations that will be a dual contribution - you will be helping the needy children in our community and your friends and family will love the bake goods you share with them!
