We are very glad indeed to see the work progress so nicely o T - the tennis courts at the rear of Cox Hall, and we may expect in Mie near future to see completed four excellent courts. Since the wo was undertaken it has been stead ily pushed forward so that nearly all the heavy work has been com pleted. The location of the ground required considerable grading, "lit this has been finished, and the backstops are now being erected. After the ground has been allow cJ to settle, and has been rolled and sanded, we expect to see nr iiy more of the students adopt th3 form of exercise. In this wav we hope to raise the standard of ten nis at Guilford by arousing the en thusiasm and gaining the further support of the student body in this branch of athletics. "THE COURAGE OF THE COMMON PLACE." On Saturday night Prof. Peele gave a reading in Memorial Ilall on "The Courage of the Common Place." Prof. Peele has been with us for several years, and we have long ago learned to expect much from him, but this time we were espe cially justified in our expectations. The rendering of ''The Courage of the Common Place" in his own calm, self-possessed, effective manner held the audience in al most breathless silence. It seems that, at least for many years, no one of the various speak ers who have come to us have been able to command such sustained interest from the entire audience as did this one of our own teach ers. Perhaps this was partly due to the fact that along with the per fection of its delivery the subject matter itself sank deeply into the consciousness of every one present, for where can "The Courage of the Common Place" be more necessary than in tlie daily, inconspicuous, monotonous labor of the four years in college? And though we would not have these difficulties removed, we do cry out for more of such courage. CALENDAR. Thursday—Y. M. and Y. W. mid week prayer meeting at 0:30. Among the various organiza tions of Guilford College, the Bibi cal Seminar holds a place of worth. It is composed of that cir cle of young men who already real ize that life might present serious problems which demand their seri ous attention when they have fin ished their college career. To prepare the members to as sist in solving these problems with the Christian wisdom is the purpose of this organization. The meetings are held semi-monthly. A book written by recognized •uthority upon the subject for dis cussion made the basis of the out line for the course of study. This not only furnishes a source of use ful information and trains one to enter into a public discussion of practical subjects, but that it also suggests fields of service and sets the purpose of life in the right way. The wholesome atmosphere and the worthy ideals which are evidenced in the meeting cannot but strengthen a member in the Christian life. Several of the members have conducted services on Sunday af ternoon at a meeting in (lie com munity. The meetings are held in Found ers Hall and the time for the next meeting is November 2, at 0.45 p. m. PATRONIZE ADVERTISERS.
