The first few weeks of the col lege year determines for each stu dent whether or not his entire year will be a success. In order for it to be a success the student must begin with a desire and a deter mination to make the most of every opportunity. Now is the time for us to make our school-year resolutions and begin to live up to them. Each task well done is as a rung in the ladder by which we climb to high er tasks. Let us then resolve' To make some "A's"; to fall below "B" in no subject; and never to quit a study 011 the plea that it is impractical. A student who makes "A" 011 a subject is gaining an education. For in order to make this grade lie must not only learn what oth ers say but lie must classify this with what lie already knew, and it is this classification that permits him to pass the knowledge 011 with the mark of his own individuality upon it. This mastery by com parison and classification, of one subject is of more value than a smattering knowledge of many subjects. A "B" grade means that the student is learning what is in his text book, but is failing to assimi late it. This student however has a chance to become educated but those who fall below this grade seldom acquire an education. A "C" means that the student has only a smattering idea of his sub jeet which will never be of much value to him. Then let each one now resolve to lay the foundation of a broad education and as we do so recog nize that: "There is no enlarge ment, unless there be a compari son of ideas one with another, as they come before the mind, and a systematizing of them. We feel our minds to be growing and ex panding then, when we not only learn, but refer what we learn to what we know already." EDITOR'S NOTICE.
