The two class basket-ball games played have brought out more spirit than many of the college games played last year. Every body was yelling or singing dur ing the entire game. There is cer tainly an abundance of class spir it here. All this is commendable and we want to see more of it. It is our duty to support our class team, but let us remember when the col lege games begm that it is still more our duty to support our col lege team. We have the players who can and will play basket-ball. Begin to support them now, bv learning yells and songs, for the students can and should help win the games. THE QUAKER. We can now say definitely that the classes of 'IG and 'l7 will put out an annual this year. The Junior and Senior classes are co operating in this and The Quaker will be put out by the joint classes. A business manager and an edi tor-in-chief have been elected from each class and are now busy con sidering the propositions of vari ous companies. No contract his yet been signed but this will be done soon and real work will be gin. It would be possible for eiflier of these two classes to put out an annual, but with the two co-oper ating a good volume of The Quak er is assured. A good annual will speak well for the college and the student body. Everybody boosf it. PROF. W. C. SMITH AT GUILFORD We were very fortunate to have Prof. W. C. Smith, of the Sta*:e Normal, with us Saturday night December 4. Prof. Smith lectured on the subject, "Why Study tl.e Bible." "The Bible is a book of absorb ing interest, and does not confine itself to members of the church. It is a practical book subjecting every one to the question, 'What can T do?' The Bible is our un matched standard of literary ex cellence. From Caedman to Kip ling, its perpetual use has made it the standard of our language. President Wilson says, 'I am sor ry for the man who does not read his liible every day.' Why will men deprive themselves of this privilege? The study of the liible elevates the moral character and .lightens the heart. We should study the Bible because we have the direct testimony of men who know that it will give dignity and nobleness. The past year there was more Bibles sold than any one hundred other books combined. The Bible is essential to educa tion, and no man can be passably well informed who is ignorant of it. Almost all of our common e\ pressions are taken from the Bi ble. Whether looked at from the point of art, literature, or daily speech a knowledge of the Bible is considered a part of every liber al education." W. R. FUTRELL WILL BE HERE SATURDAY NIGHT. On next Saturday evening at 7:30, W. R. Futrell will give a humorous entertainment. The pro gram will consist of selections from John Charles McNeil, "Un cle Remus" and others. He will give us a chance to listen to an hour and a half of real fun, so let's all go and enjoy it together. The entertainment is under the auspices of the Athletic Associa tion.
