Some half-spirited, cold-footed, athletic parasites have already been saying—wonder why our football team has not piled up a liege scoie and made a better record for itself this season? Or why have we not been able to win a majority of the games participated in? To this we want to reply in thundering, if not louder tones, that it is very largely due to the fact that there has not been enough college spirit manifested at the right time and the right place to win a soda cracker much less a football game. Time after time the boys have taken their places in the cars, in front of Cox Hall and other conspicuous places on the campus, and gently rode away attended by just about as much "pep" as you would expect at a Puritan funeral. Not even a "rat" would be so bold as to whistle "Tipperrary" or wave a red cap cap at those who were going out to fight for College recognition. This has not only been noticeable this year but last as well. Now this does not mean that we are forever doomed to wallow in the mud of this rut into which we have so unfortunately fallen. It means that we must in some way manage to systematically organize, muster our material into service and put some real Guilford spirit in all ac tivities which purport to reflect hon or upon the records of our history. To do this we suggest that a cheer leader with three assistants be ap pointed by the Athletic cabinet, and that this body be vested with power sufficient to persuade any who might get sullen or fall by the wayside. This should be done as quickly as possible in order that no time may be lost in getting ready for the ten nis tournaments and the opening of the basket ball season. Every man back of every sport is the Guilford ideal. The success of any team is just as much dependent upon the mettle of the student body as it is the sinews of her athletes. Don't blame the team for losses; either kick yourself or open that mug of yours. Do you understand? This means every man! GUILFORDIAXS ELECT WILSON. (Continued from first page) For Governess of the Girls —Emmy Lou Titanic. In addition to those mentioned, the names of the National and State can didates for President and Governor respectively were attached to the bal lots. The chairman briefly outlined the methods of voting, and referred to the proposed constitutional amendment printed on the ballots providing for equal suffrage regardles of sex. Then the august assembly of politicians disbanded. Immediately began a general rush toward"the ballot boxes. In the con fusion one could hear excited basso voices, the high shrill tones of suf fragettes and the commanding shouts of the officers in charge. After the excitement of casting the ballot had somewhat subsided and many brave ones had broken over party lines, and Republicans and Democrats were mixed and mingled, all eyes turned toward the stage where, upon a cur tain, by means of a stereopticon the election returns and other interesting items were projected. This proved to be the contribution of the Guilfordian by which it dem onstrated itself to be one of the most hustling and enterprisnig papers in the country. On the screen the ele phant and the donkey, Mutt and Jeff, Father and Maggie, Uncle Sam, Bry an, Hughes, Wilson, the Kaiser, Cu pid, and even his Satanic Majesty took sides and made appropriate comments. By this method the elec tion returns were reported, the final count being 70 to 59 in favor of the Democrats. The smallness of the vote polled was due to the large number of week-end absences. The constitutional amendment was ratified by a vote S5 to 42, and an enthusiastic burst of applause from the ladies greeted the announce ment. Finally, Miss Osborne's banishing edict was flashed upon the screen, and a general exodus took place. So far as it is known, every one came out of the hall with his political faith THE GUILFORDIAN unchanged—nay, rather strengthen ed—and at the doors of Founders and New Garden hoarse goodbyes were said. Thus ended an evening of friendly political rivalry and un adulterated fun. SENIORS ENJOY OUTING. (Continued from first page) grance of boiling coffee. A place on one side of the fire had been reserved for roasting sweet potatoes. After supper had ended with sand wiches, persimmon pudding and ap ples, all who were able joined in the numerous songs. One or two solos added much to this. The camp-fire simply would not burn down, so while a few of the ten der-hearted ran ahead to escape the sight two or three valiant heroes emptied two buckets over the flames. The walk home thru the moon light cannot be described. Some were left, others were lost; but at last all were restored to the straight and narrow path towards Founders before Freshman class meeting was half over. Miss Louise, the chaperon of the evening, lias the good wishes and thanks of every "seventeener" on the hill. Mr. Archie Riddick visited friends at the college Sunday.
