We, the class of 'l9, in order to show our displeasure of an editorial appearing in the Guilfordian Dec. 13th, hereby express our regret that such an editorial appeared in the col lege publication, and hope that the editor-in-chief will not repeat such an article in the future. Signed: ROBERT H. FRAZIER, RUTH COLTRANE, iSHERLEY WHITE, Committee. We refer our readers to the above resolutions, drawn and submitted to the editor-in-chief of this paper by the Sophomore class, as the worthy subject of our second editorial after the pleasant and nerve resting Christmas vacation. It is not our purpose to plead "freedom of the press" as a means of evading this nor any other issue with which circumstances force us to face, but we do claim that when we have a conviction concerning any branch of college conduct that there comes with it an inalienable duty to mirror the same in the college pub lication. 'lt is evident from the very face of the article in question that even a sophomoric interpretation should reveal a deeper concern to all interested in Guilford than the pal try plea of personal reflection or class pride. A second perusal of the editorial will reveal to any non-partisan sub scriber to this paper that the point of the discussion is the plea for clean athletics and sportsman-like con duct; the editorial is personal in no sense except in the just condemna tion of a violation of the Guilford athletic ideal and policy. We do not lay claim to infallibility of judgment but we do have convictions which we propose to express, especially when the sacred traditions and standards of the college are violated. To be silent in such cases is gross recreancy of duty with which we trust we cannot be charged. We had supposed that this case had been dropped but if the Sophomores per sist in discussing the issue we are ready to enter in the same. We sug gest, however, that before the issue is further discussed that the offend ed parties make a re-examination of the editorial in question in the light of its main point. We are confident of the absolute loyalty of the Sopho more class to the high standards of sportsmanlike conduct which the wearers of the Crimson and Gray have had and do maintain; we sim ply think they have not read the edi torial with unbiased minds. GUILFORD DEBATERS CHOSEN. Newlin, Valentine and Frazier, Guil ford's First Intercollegiate Deba ters. The preliminary for the selection of debaters to represent Guilford in the debate with A. & M., which is scheduled for February 17th at Greensboro was held on Monday evening, December 18th, in Memo rial Hall. There were six contest ants for the team, R. L. Newlin and Valentine from the Senior class, Frazier from the Sophomore class, and Fox, A. I. Newlin, and Lineberry from the Freshmen contingency. The preliminary was spiritedly con tested by these men; the speeches reflected considerable work and thought and the committee of judges had no little difficulty in selecting the Quaker representatives. By the decision of the committee the team selected to contest the gov ernment ownership of railways with the A. & M. debaters consists of R. L. Newlin, I. T. Valentine and Rob ert Frazier. In view of the unusual interest now being exhibited in the query and the friendly rivalry exist ent between A. & M. and Guilford, the proposed debate will prove to be one of the most significant events of the college year. It will be of interest to all Guil fordians to know that one of the A. & M. debaters, David H. Coltrane, was a student here in 1914-1915. He is now a member of the Junior class at the State's Aggie college. The PARKER PAPERS TWINE CO. WHOLESALE Pioneer in Exclusive Paper and Twine business in North Carolina. W. T.
