The Guilfordian is a newspaper but we fondly hope and believe that it is mluch more than a rniere news paper. Among its many other pur poses its function as an expression of student oipinion is by no means the least important. As the official organ of the student body it should fearlessly reflect in its pages exactly what the student body is thinking. There are limits of course. If Susie should shake Johnnie and take up with Willie the student body may think a great deal about it, but it would hardly do to discuss the mat ter here. The silly sloppy, slushy sentimental boy and girl jokes which disfigure the columns of some of our lOtherwfise ,exlcellent contemporaries have never found a place in our pages. The reporter of the for instance saw Algernon, elabor ately dressed, proceeding in the di rection of the girls' dormitory and thus reported: "Wonder what Al gie's doing with all those good clothes on. Look where he is going too. Good boy, Algie. Keep it up." When we print anything like this kindly take us to the top of King Hall and gently push us off. But with two hundred minds working day and night around here, many of them ought to find proper and legitimate expression in these pages. The Guilfordian can not be a medium for personal attacks or the knocking of chronic kickers,. But well meant and constructive criti cism is always worth while and as this college has long ago passed the boarding 'school stage such criticism should be respectfully considered by those in authority. Come on then. Let us hear what you have to say. Perhaps we can remedy your difficulties. If the weather doesn't suit you, write to us. Did you get an E (not meaning excellent) which you did not de serve. Publicity will help you. Did "she'' turn you down? Our "heart throb" editor will pick you up. Did you find Emmy Lou's teeth in the oatmeal or Hennery Rail's eyeball in the butter? Our influence with the Department of Kitchen Mechan ics is supreme. Do you fail to understand the pro found truths revealed at morning collection? We may be able to ex plain them if it is possible. Have you lost your heart? Our lost and found department can not 'be equal ed. Do you think we are liars? We will publish what you say but please don't use that word. Seriously, however, when we con sider the vast number of opinions which are privately expressed around here, it would be a pity if some of them could not be expressed public ly. Let us give you the opportunity. All-we ask is that you have some thing to say worth saying and that you do not lay too violent hands on the English language. PROF. PARTINGTON LEADS Y. M. C. A. On last Thursday evening Prof. Partington conducted the service at Y. M. C. A. The subject of his dis course was, "The Measure of a Man." He discussed his subject from the physical, intellectual, and spiritual standpoint. The speaker said that if we can be called a MAN, we are successful. The philosophers and men of great mental capacity have done much in the world, but it takes more than physical power and intel lectual endowment to make a well rounded man. One must have the spiritual to make liis life mean most to himself and those about him. If a man would be successful he must know how to get along with others. He cannot live alone. His way of living affects others in a way that is either a help or hindrance. If one is skillful in living with men, it is a test of perfect manhood. The speaker said that what one does for his tfelloiwmen must be done in a spirit of love. This spirit of love determines the measure of a man. Prof. Partington ended his talk by saying, "Be a man maker and a man mender." The PARKER PAPERS TWINE CO. WHOLESALE Pioneer in Exclusive Paper and Twine business in North Carolina. W. T.
