MORNING. I wake from a deep and dreamless sleep To look on the world once more, To tackle the task where I left it last To retire on the night before. Hark, to the bell! 'Tis the rising knell Peals out through the cold gray morn Calling us back to 'the beaten track, Which students long have known. To the eastern sky, where the sun rays rise With the starry robe of night; I wondering gaze as the stars faint rays Fade slowly out of sight. No painting fair e'er half so rare; And the glory seemed increased By the thougiht of home, toward the ocean foam, Away o'er the hills to the east. Lo! the signal strain from a far-off train, As she pulls the ascent steep, Like a distant moan on the brezes borne O'er the hills still wrapped in sleep. There's a peaceful hush in the dawn's blush O'er the campus cold and still, As free from the strife and throb bing life. As the lonely woodland rill. UNCLE MUNN'S CORNER. (The Music Department very kind ly offered to set to music the poem by Uncle Munn in our last issue. When Munn heard this he asked for the iprivilege of making a few im provements. This was granted with the result given below. The altera tions are placed within brackets. In removing the brackets be careful to change the sign.) O Guiliford, fair immortal Thy children call to thee (That poems of this sort 'll Drive them to lunacy.) Where burns thy lamp iforever In wisdom's holy shrine (Our kerosene will never Quite last as long as thine.) Upon thy knees maternal ■We listen to the story (Of chemic stinks infernal Within the la'bratory.) Thy life is full of flowers Whose petals all are we (Our disposition sours Wihen 'ere we get an E.) The sinking sun adorning The gray and crimson skies (An aged egg in mourning Could not look otherwise.) With autumns cri'mson splendors Or winter's coat of grey (Or Peacock's red suspenders Whidh bloom in the month of May.) Thy brood around thee gathers Oh hear us while we pray (Don't feed us too much sausage Or any more chopped hay.) Take us aill undeserving And guide our steps aright (For its just a bit unnerving When Bill turns out the light.) TO THE NEW YEAR. O Year, so bright and almost new, We ask a favor kind of you. We ask that thru the coming days Our lives be filled with better ways. O year, that still does not tell loss Of time, of talent, but of dross, Encircle us and keep us true To all the vows now made anew. O year, that comes with hope so 'bright, O may we walk with footsteps right, And think not of our failures past, But do our best e'en to the last. O year, may we look forward to The many things that we can do, And try to .make the world more bright, And thus find favor in His sight. It Isn't Your School, It's You. If you want to live in the kind of a school Like the kind of a school you like, You needn't slip your clothes in a grip And start on a long, long hike. You'll only find what you left be hind, For there's nothing that's really new. It's a knock at yourself when you knock your school, It isn't the school—it's you. Real schools are not made by men afraid Lest somebody else gets ahead. When every one works and nobody shirks, You can raise a school from the dead. \nd if, while you make your person al stake, Your neighbors can make one, too, Your school will be what you want to see. It isn't the school—it's you. —Exchange. THOMAS WAKEFIELD THE LEADING GROCER. Candies, Cakes, Student Supplies, Shoes and Rubbers. If we haven't got what you want, we will get it.
