Guilford music patrons have a treat to look forward to as Mr. Guevchenian is a recitalist of experience and ability, and it will be worth coming a dis tance to hear him. He has a rich deep tenor voice which has delighted many audiences in the past. A good crowd should turn out. 'the following press not'cos are samples of the many he has received: At the Adams Memorial Church, New York, Badrig Vartan Guevchen ian sang in good style songs by Han del and Homer, showing a fine tenor voice and superior vocal training. He was well received and heartily en cored.—Musical Courier, New York. Badrig Vartan Guevchenian, tenor, gave an attractive song recital in the Parish House of the Church of the Messiah, North street, before a very musical and appreciative audience. DR. AND MRS. BINFORD AT HOME TO SENIORS The Senior Class was very much interested when each member receiv ed the following: Guilford College News Extra Special Associated Press President and Mrs. Binford will be at home to the Seniors on Tuesday evening, September 17 from eight until ten o'clock. The guests having obeyed the sum mons were welcomed by Dr. and Mrs. Binford and then set to woNt at a novel and interesting task. Each couple was furnished with a pile of newspapers and told to make for each other a costume. No scissors were used, and it was very interest ing after about fifty minutes to see the beautiful creations which were designed by the makers—most of them being entirely original, it seem ed. Miss Louise was judge, and it was indeed a striking scene to see the couples march by her. She de cided that Kate Smith and Ruth Col trane were the most artistically dressed, and that Prof. Brinton and Georgianna Bird deserved the booby prize. After this, the guests each drew a card containing on it the department of a newspaper which they were to prepare. Laughter filled the rooms as the editorial, advertisements, weather forecast, war news, etc., were read. This was one of the most unique parties the guests had ever attended' and each member of the Senior class was glad to know Dr. and Mrs. Bin ford, and to learn how girls can be given a good time with only three boys in the class. Delicious gelatine and cake were served. MISS HOCKETT SPEAKS ON BEING TRUE TO SELF On last Thursday evening Eula Hockett, who had charge of the Y. W. C. A. meeting, talked to a very at tentive and interested audience on the subject of "Being True to One's Self." Miss Hockett said that it bf hooves each one to allow her best self to be her leader. Every one owes it to herself to do her best Failure to do this is cheating yourself. Each one should stand out for the right and her own convictions regardless of the opinions of the crowd. Being in the wrong is much worse than being un popular. It is important to begin the new school year right and to e: n stantly strive to do the best in all things if one would avoid coming out in debt to one's self in the end. In conclusion, she emphasized the necessity of developing strong Chris tian characters and of cooperation on the part of each individual in or der to obtain the greatest final le sults. NUMBER 2
