Many girls have started to walk one hun dred miles in order to win a "G." Several have already reached the fif tieth mile post and are still striving for the one hundredth one. Last year many started but fell by ,the wayside and only four reached the goal. Let us hope that those who have begun this year will not give up but persevere to the last. Several girls have taken an active interest in tennis. We trust that more will become interested when the real tennis season opens next spring. Girls, let's line ourselves up with these different phases of athletics. Let's make use of these flying oppor tunities. They will come to us no more. It will soon be time for bas ket ball. Let's make this year the best in the history of girls' athlet ics at Guilford. We've got the girls —more than ever before. Let's sieze this chance to develop .this side of college life. Don't by" in the list of slackers or disinterested ones. Let's lay our books aside for a short while each day after school and de velop strong physical, as well as mental qualities. You can do much to make this college of ours better by supporting athletics. Besides you are receiving something which you can get nowhere else. Will you be alert to these advantages? Come join our ranks with all your might, 'And we'll surely, surely win the fight. GIRLS' ATHLETICS GOING FORWARD Despite the fact that girls have been a little late in beginning ath- letics, on account of the sultry weather during the first weeks of school they are now entering into the spirit wholeheartedly and much is being accomplished So far baseball has been the main featur§. Never before have so many girls taken such an active part. Al most every day from 4:15 to 5:30 p. m. the baseball field is dotted with girls—yes, girls, big girls, little girls, tall girls and short girls—each one doing her best to become the most skillful. This phase of girls' athletics has been loyally supported, altho this is only the second year that it has been listed as a department of girls' ath letics. The new girls have shown much interest in the contest and are rap idly coming to the front. At first some of them seemed very timid and awkward, but now many can boast of the fact that they can make a three-base hit, and occasionally a home run. It is urged that this "pep" and co operation continue, as only the most skillful will play in the public game which is coming this week. If you wish to be on the winning side and play in the public game, you must sieze every opportunity for real practice, for skill in throw ing balls, in batting, etc. Remember all these points count in winning a "G." Get into the spirit of the game, give your best co-operation and be there on good time, full of enthusiasm and "pep," and you. will be sure to win the day. AGE BEFORE BEAUTY. To the Editor of the Guilfordian: We wish to draw attention to the fact that one table in the dining room is very fortunate. This table is honored by the presence of two students who invariably take care that the professor at the table is the first person to whom each of the various dishes is passed. These two also never fail to ask to be when they are obliged to leave the table before the other students do. That these young people know thq ways of the world is apparent. A. B. W. I.
