So in this, the last edition of our college journal this year, the members of the board extend to its readers a hearty wish for a joyous Christmas and prosperous New Year, remembering "that each day, each month, each year is a new chance given you by God. A new chance, a new leaf, a new life —this is the golden, the unspeakable gift which each new day offers to you." It seems fitting at this writing to also express our gratitude for the liberal support of our paper that we have received at the hands of the students, our subscribers in general and our advertisers. Since the be ginning of the present collegiate year we have put forth an effort to make The Guilfordian first class in every respect and worthy to be class ed among the papers of the leading colleges. If our efforts have been in the least successful, we attribute j our ..success in a large measure to I these who have so loyally supported our paper. Now, since the new year is so near at hand, our thoughts and hopes are naturally .turned tu it. With just reasons we believe that prospects for next term are flattering. We be j lieve also that at no time in the his i tory of the institution have there ! been better opportunities for the ac complishment of great "ends than are at the present time. And as we ! muse over the past four months we i can but think they have been months of both profit and pleasure. Those who have realized the expectations of their hopes this term should ' strive to surpass them next term. No one should feel that each suc ceeding year in college should be less laborious and freer from tasks, for as we advance step by step, our | responsibility increases. We hope to greet all the old stu dents and many new ones at the be ginning of next .term. And let each one of us return to our college af ter the holiday festivities with re newed vigor and enthusiasm. WEBSTERIANS DEBATE STUDENT GOVERNMENT. The Websterian Literary Society held its regular meeting last Friday night. In the absence of President White Vice President Rudd presid ed. A splendid program was ren | dered consisting of a debate on the query, "Resolved, that the male stu dents of Guilford College should have a system of student govern ment." The affirmative was upheld by John Dorsett and Fred Sumners, who produced some good argument by showing how student government worked in other colleges and that it developed a spirit of self govern ment for the individual. However, their argument was not strong enough to overthrow that produced by William Fishel and Paul Rayle, who exposed the defects of student government. They would have dis cipline in colleges rather than stu dent government. The next number was a debate be tween Clyde Fitch and Calvin Plonk, which proved to be very i amusing. The critic for the evening, Clefus StanfieM, gave a very instructive re port, after which the society ad journed. The society was very glad to have as a visitor Mr. F. S. Blair. He spoke of the peace contest, urging all who j could, to enter. W. I. Anderson & Co. NORTH CAROLINA'S LARGEST DEALERS IN FRUITS & PRODUCE Wholesale Only GREENSBORO, N. C.
