Already the work of the year is being looked upon as a definite unit in the whole scheme of college life. To some it is the last and crowning unit, to others a connecting step or an introduction to college life, but to every student it repre sents some phase of Guilford life. The action of each of these years has a corresponding reaction upon the student, and before the com pletion of one year these various reactions and impressions have form ed themselves into a definite opin ion of Guilford. We believe that the future of Guilford is backed up with these opinions and the degree to which they are brought into the minds of the people of North Cai*- olina. The chief avenues to the public are through Guilford's own graduates and students. And upon each individual of these groups, rests the personal duty and privilege of giving Guilford a maximum amount of publicity in his or her community. In communities containing several members of the Alumni Association. Guilford clubs should be organized to place the college in the minds of those students who are just now completing their High School course and are considering the possibilities which diffei-ent institutions offar them. For the students the mediums of swelling Guilford's quota of these high school students are the County Club Organizations. Now is the time to get these clubs limbered up into into action, to make them real boosters for our college. The stu dents must put Guilford on the map in every county in the State. Now is the time to begin the campaign. EDWARD L. HOLLADY TALKS TO Y. M. C. A. Subject, "The Ends of Education." Thursday evening the Y. M. C. A. was conducted by Edward Hollady. The campus looked more interesting thsn did the Y. M. C. A. hall and so the meeting was held over in front of the church on the lawn. The speaker opened his talk by reading a passage from the 13th chapter of Matthew. Then followed a short season of prayer. After which Mr. Hollady made a very inspiring talk on "The Ends of Ed ucation." "To get an education is, or ought to be, the prime motive of every one. whether one intends to live a Christian life or not education will help him . If we wish to go through the world and get all we can out of the world then education can help us. It can also help us if we wish to put something into the world. To be patriotic, a good citizen, do Christian service or be a leader in every day life a good education is essential. The schools create the society of the future. Whether that society is to be a progressive one or not de pends upon how much of the younger genei'ation comes in touch with schools. Germany is an example of this, only her motive was wrong. Tln'ough such organizations as the Y. M. C. A., Christian Eendeavor, and Y. W. C. A. great opportunities are offered to the young man or woman desirous of doing something useful in life." LIBERTY IN CHRISTIAN SERVICE Mrs. J. W. Williams Speaks to Young Women. Mrs. J. W. Williams, last Thurs day evening, April 7th, gave a very inspiring and enlightening talk to the Young Womens Christian Asso ciation on the subject of "Liberty," the "glorious liberty of the children of God."' For freedom did Christ set us free. We have a right as chris tians to have perfect freedom but we must be careful with cur free dom and know how to use it. Not use it selfishly nor be entangled in the yoke of bondage. The place is never reached where we do not have to use our liberty carefully, when heathens come out of their castes there is a danger of them throwing all restrictions to the wind and going to the extreme of libery. In our so cial life we have much liberty as Christians that we may dare, to do things differently frcm other people. "Stand fast in the freedom where with Christ sets us free." Do not do a thing because the crowd does it, but have enough courage and liberty in Christ to fall in line with his teaching instead of the crowd. Love the Lord so it will be no hardship to do what he wishes. We as college students are getting ready to become leaders in the world and when we go home for the sum mer vacation is a good time to begin our work. It is not the liberty we get From Christ if we say we can't do any good in our community and work in our church. Use your life to the best advantage in your com munity. We are in school to get liberty, courage, and faith. THE GUILFORD IAN f J. M. HENDRIX & CO. f f THE HOME OF GOOD SHOES j Greenrboro, N.
