November 7, 1947 GUILFORD BEATS DUKE AND CATAWBAI Woman's College was host for a statewide playday last Saturday, November 1, which saw colleges from all over the state competing in hockey, tennis, swimming, and archery. Guilford sent a hockey team and two tennis players. The hockey games were run off in a round robin, each team playing every other team in a 12-minute jame. Catawba, Duke, Greensboro College, Guilford, Salem, and Worn an's College were the colleges repres ented in hockey. The Guilford-Salem game ,was first on the schedule. The newness of surroundings and of playing against unfamiliar players hurt the Guilford team at the beginning, with the result that they came out 01 the tail and of a 1-0 score. Improvement Shown The same score was the result of the Woman's College-Guilford game, which was, nevertheless, a vast im provement over the loss of 5-0 to Woman's College last year. Guilford's team was chosen from the girls who had attended 5 out of the 7 WAA hockey practices.
