Page Four downs Set Pace In Football Tourney The Guilford Clowns qualified for the finals of the Guilford College Intramural Football Tournament by defeating a scrappy Old North club 47 to 37. The tournament, which is organ ized on a double elimination basis, has attracted eight teams. A! Mil ner, intramural director, has sche duled two games each Tuesday and Thursday afternoons until it is completed. In the opening round the Clowns won a close one from New North by a 19 to 12 score. Old North swamped Yankee Stadium 58 to 12 while Center beat Archdale 19-12 and the Dap Hops No. 2 defeated the Day Hops No. 1, 31 to 0. In the second round the Clowns wal loped the Day Hops No. 2 by n 45 to (J count while Old North whipped Center 47 to 19. Yankee Stadium won their first game by eliminating Archdale 38 to 13, and New North advanced when the Day Hop 1 for feited to them. Center Section knocked Yankee Stadium out of the running by a 37 to C score, while New North squeezed by the Day Hops 2, 13 to 7. The concluding games will be played in the next two weeks when Center meets New North, and the winner tackles Old North for the right 'to play the Clowns for the eba mpionship. In team scoring Old North has set a torrid pace by racking up 142 points in three contests. The downs are second with 111. The best defensive record posted has been by New North whose oppon ents have crossed their goal line for only 25 points. Ed Skinner, a speedster from Old North, is showing the way in the individual scoring race with seven touchdowns and three extra points for a total of 45 points. Miss Ada Fields, Bob Byrd Speak to IRC Group The International Relations Cluli held it's second second meeting of the academic year in the Ilut Octo ber 21, 1049. Miss Ada Fields of Guilford Col lege community, was the guest speaker of the evening. Miss Fields was aided by Hob li.vrd of Duke University, who is presently work ing with the World Federalists. The topic of the evening was "World Government." "In order to have peace in the world today, we must have some form of world government," said Miss Fields. Her talk was followed by a live ly discussion in which all the mem bers participated. Refreshments were served by Anne Isonaga, Mary Elizabeth Ham ilton and Barbara McFarland. Student Affairs Committees Appointed The new Student Affairs Board Constitution as drawn up by the 1948-49 board was distributed at the September 29th meeting, the first of this year. Committees for this year were also appointed at this meeting. They are as follows: Budget committee, Tuttle Sherrill, chairman; Gene Key, Ben Baker, I>r. Victorious, adviser. Points committee: Gene Peace, chairman; Howard Davis, Margery Anderson, Miss I.asley, advisers. Election com mittee: Tom Goertner, chairman; Marrnnine Victorius, Cliff Goodman, Dr. Purdorn, advisers. George Houser, secretary of the National Fellowship of Recon ciliation, spoke before the Monday morning chapel session on "Non- Violence in a Progressive World," Itev. Houser told of the big problem in the world today of violence run ring wild. The powers of non-cooperation, public opinion, and non-retaliation are the only way to stem this tide of violence. He gave many exam ples by which these powers were of more practical use than violence. "The intelligent, use of these powers is the only way in which we can gain victory in Hie world today."
