It is not intended as any particular criticism of this year's organizational methods—the S. A. B. is doing a fine job and deserves commendation but rather this is an idea on which to ponder when planning for the 1955 campaign. Greensboro College, with a student body of 300 and a faculty of 35, raises each year around SISOO for the Campus Chest. Of this amount, SIOOO is raised by the students and SSOO by PI I 1 / HELLO in CHLOE. FIIFI TALK A6OJO| MUCH LATER: \ I I WOW AKHiI A Ci>£ S r \ I you ARNOLD, WHAT 1 "! For years squawks have come from all corners concerning the fact that between Saturday noon and Monday morning, the Quaker campus is a bleak, barren and des olate outpost, inhabited only by those trapped without somewhere to go . . . anywhere to go. The Saturday exodus left a completely inert institution. Perhaps, at long last, we are freeing ourselves of this dilemma. Student organizations, under very capable leadership, are roaring off in the right direction. Now, ac cording to the schedule, somebody is having something practically every week-end. This, we feel, is extremely good. More power to the organizations. The Social Committee, which we have pictured on the third page for this particular reason, is wide open for suggestions. If you've got a legitimate gripe or a suggestion that sounds promising, go to the Committee and let it be known. The same for the Student Chris tian Association; they're doing ihings, too. Friday night of last week, the Mary Hobbs girls invited the men of Yankee Stadium over for sup per. A fine time was had by all. We would like to commend this type of thing, and look for more wide-spread participation. They all don't have to be dinners—just any kind of get-together—and there are still two other girls' dorms and five other boys' sec tions. This is a good beginning, but let's see if it can't be continued. Worth" Department the faculty. On the other hand, Guilford, with a student body of 572 and a faculty of over 50, manages to get only S4OO from the students and $450 from the faculty. G. C., in its quest for funds, re sorts to such things as a faculty auction each year at which all of the faculty members must con tribute something to be auctioned. Might it not be well for us to pause and reevaluate our plans? When a school half our size can come up with double our contribu tion, something is amiss. Backstage With The Social Committee By Betty Humble Pres.-Social Committee This year's Social Committee consists of seventeen members whose main interest is to improve the campus social life through rec reation and group fellowship. We cannot do this task alone, as much of the work lies in the hands of you, the students. Your support through participating in planned social activities is in order for us to do our part. Last Saturday night's "Sock Hop" was much fun and successful because the attendants backed us all the way. We appreciated your enthusiastic participation! Some of the students did not co operate with us though, and we cannot create greater friendships among the students if everyone does not participate. Our commit tee has planned activities for all students who want to have fun on these dead Saturday nights. There will be dancing in the gymnasium after the Catawba ball game on November 13, and we sin cerely hope that all students will make a special effort to come ouc and fellowship together. You can't make new friends, either males or females, by sitting up in your dorms with a book in your hands always, so give the rest of the stu dents a break and be at the next informal dance! We are all vital links in the campus social life, which could be symbolized by a chain. When the links are left untended to rust, the chain breaks. Let's get busy and have fun enjoying social activities sponsored by the Social Commit tee! Guilford College Drug Company ACCURATE ETHICAL CLEAN Friendly Rd. Guilford College, N. C.
