These four Mono gram Club members are hard at work planning decorations for the annual Crristmas dance, which is to be held this year on Saturday, December the tenth. Rhodes Scholars To Visit Guilford Campus On Tuesday evening and Wed nesday, December 6th and 7th, Guilford College will be host to the Committee of Selection for Rhodes Scholars. This committee is made up of five Rhodes Schol ars, one of whom will act as sec retary to the committee. The chairman of the committee is not a Rhodes Scholar and is invited to preside by the committee. This year Dr. Milner will be committee chairman. There will be two candidates to the regional conference selected from seventeen applicants. These scholarships provide for study at Oxford University. The basis of selection is as follows: (1) Liter ary and scholastic ability and at tainments. (2) Qualities of man hood, truthfulness, courage, devo tion to duty, sympathy, kindliness, unselfishness, and fellowship. (3) Exhibition of moral force of character and of instincts to lead and to take an interest in his fel lows. (4) Physical vigor, as shown by fondness for and success in sports. Tuesday evening the candidates will have an opportunity to dis play their social bearing and on (Continued on Page 2) GUILFORD COLLEG Tickets For Lecture Available The regular Greensboro Mac- Donald concert series will be started in Aycock Auditorium at 8 p.m., December 5, 1955. The Convocation Committee of Guil ford College, which is made up of students and faculty, have bought ten tickets for the series of which there are five different programs. The tickets are kept in the lib rary and any one student can pick up a ticket after twelve o'clock on December 5. The tickets may be reserved by signing up before hand. Vocalist for the first concert is Mr. Jussi Bjoerling, world famous tenor and artist of the metro politan Opera Company. A superi or musical artist like Jussi Bjoer ling cannot be brought to the Guil ford campus so the Convocation Committee has decided to buy a few tickets in order to make it pos sible for at least a few students to benefit from hearing good music. The committee seriously hopes that all ten tickets will be used for each program of the series. Further announcements will be made about the remaining four concerts. E, DECEMBER 2, 1955 Inter-Collegiate Council Meets The Greensboro Inter-Collegiate Council consisting of students from the six colleges of the Greensboro area met at Greens boro College, last night December first. Students from Greensboro College presented the program for the meeting. The Inter-Collegiate Council is composed of students enrolled in the six colleges of the Greensboro area interested in fostering social contact with students of other colleges who have similar intel lectual interest and concern. Us ually the meeting consist of discus sions of collegiate, national and inter-national issues. Despite the fact that the council consists of both faculty and students from the various colleges, it has no formal connection with these col leges represented nor does it have any requirements for membership except a desire on the part of its members to want to know other students having diversified col 'egiate, racial, and vocational backgrounds. Guilford students interested in attending future meetings should contact Martha Wellons or Frank Laraway and watch for announ cements in the Guilfordian. Harold Gale To Provide Music From 8:30 to 11:30 p. m. on the evening of December 10th the Monogram Club will sponsor the annual Christmas Dance. Harold Gale and his orchestra will ac company featured soloist, Guil ford's own Gertie Wright, from the bandstand. The surprise crowning of the Christmas Queen will cli max the evening. Each year the senior Monogram members are honored, and this year Bob Alligood, Bill Atkins, Chester Baker, Ed Brown, Ted Brown, Marvin Carruthers, Bob Cornish, Ducky Everett, Bill Gib son, Curt Hege, Gerald McCumby, Bill Rogers, Eli Self, Charlie Strid er, Chick Trafford, and Tom Younts are the honored ones. Of course, committees are neces sary for planning this big event. Chester Baker heads the decora tion committee, Roger Roan plans invitations, Tom Younts mixes re freshments, Ed Brown plans for .-sufficient entertainment, while G. F. Seymour makes sure that every one knows about the dance. All this for $2.00 per couple 9 Sure, and you never can tell what might happen after you're there. Will we see you then?
