With everyone leaving tomorrow to go home for the Christinas holidays, we thought it might be a good idea if each and everyone of us thought a moment about the true spirit of Christmas. Too many of us base our Christ mas on how many presents we receive or how many parties v/e attend. We are not saying that presents and parties do not have their place during the Christmas season, but we are saying that Christmas is supposed to mean a lot more than just a celebration of material things. In this modern era of commerci alized Christmases, it sometimes becomes difficult to realize that what we are really celebrating is Christ's Birthday. It is our wish that during the coming holidays you will all make an extra effort to observe the true meaning of Christmas, "whether it be alone, with your famliy, with friends or with a loved one. Christmas ob served in thanks and the remem brance of what Christ did for us is the most lasting type of Christ mas. In closing for this year, the Guilfordian staff would like to wish each and everyone of you Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year. Here's to prosperous and rewarding year in 1956. petition by the students was not mentioned. If petition is in order, what percentage of the students should sign it, and to whom should I it be sent? I It is my sincere hope that Presi ! dent Milner or someone on the ad- I ministrative staff of the college will give an answer to the first j letter and this question of petition. Sincerely, Royce Garrett. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT CLARITA DE LA GARZA One of our most loyal and friendly seniors is Clarita De La Garza, known on the campus as "Yogi." Clarita's major for her first year was mathematics, but for the last three years it has been psychology. Clarita can claim many home towns. She can claim Elgin, Illi nois, New York City, N. Y., Miami, Fla., and also Colombia, South America, where her parents live. Clarita has made her highest mark in the field of athletics. She has participated in hockey, volley ball, badminton, ping pong, ten nis, basketball, and Softball. Her greatest achievement was in a hockey game when she, acting a.i goalie, sat on the ball to prevent a goal) Clarita is also a member of the W. A. A., and was elected equipment manager last spring. In the springtime it is a com mon sight to see her wearing her baseball cap and rooting for the batters of her two favorite teams, the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees. This is a rare type of fan in the field of baseball. Her other fields of interest are major league baseball games, TV, shows, and working in the Illinois State Hospital during the summer. Her plans for next fall are in definite, but we are sure she will be a success in whatever she does. Merry Christmas (Continued from Paee 1> nations fight and quibble for pow er and supremacy; nol while men kill one another; not while women and children starve. Yet, above all this still burns the flame of hope and the promise of a brighter to morrow through the love of Jesus Christ, whose birthday we cele brate December 25th. So, let our holidays be happy and free from sorrow or disaster. May everyone have a very, very MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
