Special Elections Issue Volume XL 11 Speeches Will Be Given Today Allen, Matthews, Vie For MSG MK KiW ALLEN Coming from New Orleans, Louisiana, Graham Allen has been at Guilf ord a little more than a year. He transferred from N. C. State last year. This twenty-year junior has been active in several campus activities. He is a member of the Young Friends and is active in the Revelers' Club. This year he has worked on the Quaker staff and the GUILFORDIAN staff. Graham is now a history major, and he plans to teach the subject after gradu ation. 11. ! I® ifffe'"' ■ CROFTON Bill Crofton is a North Stater from Reidsville. He is a twenty year old junior. Among his activi ties, he has been a member of the MSG and was president of the campus Methodist group last se mester. He is running on the ticket as a petitioned candidate. Aside from the MSG presidency, Bill is also running for vice-president of the Senior Class. He is an Eco nomics major. In Biology Lab THE GUILFORDIAN fat " m W iW MATTHEWS Twenty-year old Bob Matthews is from Decatur, Georgia. He trans ferred from Haverford College and became a math major. Now a junior, Bob is planning to enter the missionary field as an engineer after he has completed his college studies. He is a member of the Young Friends group on campus. This semester he has been working as a member of the Religious Edu cation Week committee. Exercise your rights; get out and vote. Candidates Named For Class Offices Seniors Dave Hardin Dave has held the offices of vice president of the freshman and junior classes. He has also served as a Marshall and as a member of the Honor Board. If elected, he plans to obtain a top grade speaker for graduation and raise the pres tige of the senior class. Bob Marsh Among the extracurricular ac tivities held by Bob are: president of the sophomore class, a member of the Guilfordian Staff, a member of the SAB, MSG, and the Presi dent's Advisory Board. Bob is definitely in favor of establishing a senior prom for the graduating class. He feels that this will be a big help in building closer bonds between the seniors. For the vice - presidency, Dick Ringewald, Bill Crofton, and Wal ter Caviness are the nominees. C.,MARCH 11, 1958 Polls Open Wednesday Campaign speeches will be given today at upperelass chapel by candidates who are seeking major offices for next year. Only those candidates who are on the ballot for a four point office will give speeches. Each student is to be allotted four minutes to de liver his plotform. Bob Newton, chairman of the Student Affairs Board election committee, will pre side over the chapel period. Polls Open The polls for the spring elections open Wednesday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., in the Biology Laboratory in King Hall. Members of the SAB will be on hand to direct the voting procedure. Results are to be posted as soon as possible after the polls close. In case it is necessary, run offs are scheduled for chapel fol lowing election day. The revised budget will not be presented in today's chapel due to the lack of time. A time has not yet been announced when the re vised budget will be presented to the student body. A lot of people might spend less time watching TV if only they could remember what it was they used to do. Charles Chase, resident of English Hall, is vying for the posi tion of Junior Class President. He is a native of Monroe, Wisconsin and has been active in extra curricular circles. He is also run ning for the position of Student Christian Association President. Groome Fulton is another candi date for this office. Groome, a native of High Point, has been active in intramural sports while at Guilford, participating in the basketball and football intramural programs. He is also a member of the Young Friend's. Another hope ful is Howard Hinshaw, a Day Hop from the Guilford College com munity. Howard is a math major and is the president of the Gennan Club and a member of the Young Friend's. The office of vice-president is being sought by Larry Holland and Kermit Robertson. Margie Haworth and Pat Garner are compaigning for the Secretary office. For the Treasurer's position, Wade Macey and Erline King are the hopefuls. MARSH Budget Junior : : a. CHASE HINSHAW Mcßane, Honea For Head WSG Positions n /- I McBANE Carol Mcßane is a resident of Shore Hall, and she hails from Snow Camp, N. C. She has been quite active in the Women's Athletic Association and in intramurals. Carol has served on the WAA Council for three years—this year she is secretary of the organization. Young Friends receives much of her interest. She has been a mem ber of the group for three years and is secretary this year. Carol is junior representative from Shore to the WSG Council. Sophomores A. T. Barbee and Jackie Williams have been nominated for the office of Sophomore Class President for 1958-59. A. T. is a native of Dur ham, and he entered Guilford last fall after serving a term in the United States Air Force. He is, at present, photographer for the GUIL FORDIAN and is an economics major. Jackie, from Rocky Mount, is cur rently serving as vice-president of the Freshman Class. He plays the position of quarterback on the foot ball team and is a pre-ministerial student. Candidates for vice - president are: Joe Brown, from Richmond, Virginia; Doug Redmond, of Greensboro; and Richard "Bootie" Swindell, from New Bern. Five girls were nominated for the office of secretary. They are: S,ue Drake, from Gastonia; Anne Clark, of Asheboro; Betty Lou Mc- Farland, from Aberdeen; Margaret Haworth, High Point; and Betsy (Continued on page tuio) BARBEE WILLIAMS Special Elections Issue IF jjg HONEA Virginia Honea lives in Hobbs Hall. She is formerly from Greens boro, but she now makes her home in Florida. The Revelers Club is one of Vir ginia's main interests. She has taken part in several plays produced by the club. She was a member of the BSU her freshman and sophomore years. This year Virginia serves on the WAA Council as Publicity Chair man, and she is also junior repre sentative from Hobbs on the WSG Council. SCA Announces Slate of Officers The Student Christian Associa tion has announced the proposed slate of officers for next year. Three people have been nomi nated for president: Earl Jones, Jo Ann Hundley, and Charlie Chase. * Earl, a rising senior from Pilot Mountain, has been active in the Young Friends. Here he served as treasurer, and was on the program committee. He is a member of the choir, also. Earl's majors are mathe matics and economics. Jo Ann, also a rising senior, is from Francisco, N. C. She is major ing in sociology. She has been a WSG representative, WSG secre tary, a member of the Honor Board and the WAA, a cheerleader, a marshal, and the secretary, as well as president, of the Westminster Fellowship. Jo Ann now serves as secretary to the planning commit tee for the Statewide YMCA YWCA-SCA Conference. Charlie, who will be a junior next year, is a math major from Monroe, Wisconsin. He is a choir member and is the Westminster Fellowship's treasurer. The vice-president of the organi zation will be the runner-up for the presidency. Betty Lou McFarland, a rising sophomore from Aberdeen, is a nominee for corresponding secre tary. She has served as secretary of the Methodist Youth Group and as secretary of the Beligious Educa tion Committee.
