James Childress This year all candidates for president and vice-president of the men's Student Government will be by petition and will run together on tickets. Running on one ticket will be James Childress for president and Jim Boles for vice-president. James has served as president of the SAB and SCA this year. Jim has been junior class president and co-chair- Chief Cheerleader Will Be Selected Two nominees have been se lected to vie for head cheerlead ers. These junior girls are Jane Truelove and Judy Allen. Jane, an education major, hails from Wrightsville Beach, and this was her first year to cheer for Guilford College. This completes Judy's third year on the squad and her first one as head cheerleader. She is a biology major from Hyatts ville, Maryland. Other cheerleaders for next year will be Judy Wells, Judy Standi, Lynn Hundley, Betsy Winesett, and Fraser Smith. Alternates will be Linda Goble and Brenda Fer guson. This is the first year the boys have run on tickets. By working elections this way, the MSG feels that there will be more co-opera tion between officers. Formerly the runner-up in the presidential elec tions has been vice-president. Social Committee Seeks to Expand The social committee is expand ing its membership this coming year to include twenty students. Candidates fo'r chairman of the Committee are Tommy Kemp and Fraser Smith. Both are members of the rising senior class. Fraser has served this year as president of Founders Hall and is presently a member of the Social Committee. She is from Trinity, N. C. Tommy is from Asheboro and is also a present member of the Social Committee. In addition to the two candi dates for chairman, 23 persons have been nominated for the Com mittee from which 18 will be selected to serve for the 1961-62 year. The nominees are: Ken Griffin, Merle Mallard, Betsy Winesett, Mickey Herrin, Sarah Andrew, John Huffman, Sue Kohn, Rusty Brown, Bobby Davidson, Jane Simpson, Gary McGee, Judy Vail, Jon Cox, Howard Braxton, Diana Coneybear, Karen Karnan, Norm Hamrick, Jane Coltrane, Tommy Bowers, Lynn Hundley, Dwight Thomas, Frank Bailey, and |udy Wells. Quaker Candidates Jane Coletrane and Lynn Hund ley are tying for top spot on the Quaker staff. Both of these juniors seeking the editorship have served on the annual staff this year, Jane, on the circulation staff and Lynn, on the sports staff. Contenders for the title of busi ness manager are Tommy Kemp and Harold Goodman. Gary is a staff reporter on a leave of absence from the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times. Prior to his joining The Times, the Navy claimed him for four years. Margaret is a transfer student from Peace College in Raleigh where she was circulation man ager and reporter for the college paper her first year. After that she served as assistant editor. Penny Smith and Linda Shep pard, both sophomores, are run ning for managing editor. Penny has done some writing for the paper and worked on the business staff. Linda is an English major and a tutor for the department. Both girls are Dana scholars. SCA Candidates Officers nominated for president of the Student Christian Associa tion are Evelyn Copeland, Bill Rhoads, and Judi Tindall. Evelyn is clerk of the Young Friends, has served as secretary of the WSG, and is a religion major. Bill is president of the Revelers Club, is active in the Canterbury Club and has played a major part in organizing a new library pro ject. Judi is presently secretary of the SCA, has been active in the Canterbury Club and is a Religion major. Judy is from Warsaw, North Carolina, and is a member of the Class of 1962. She is presently the WSG junior class representative from Shore Hall. Judy is a math major, an honor-roll student, and has been a cheerleader since coming to Guil ford in 1958. Fraser, also a member of the class of '62 has served this year as house president of Founders Hall. She is from Trinity, N. C., and is a member of the Social Committee and Quaker staff. The runner-up in this election will serve as vice president. For secretary, two Hobbs room mates, Linda Shepherd of High Point and Brenda Ferguson of Liberty, are in the running. Both are rising juniors.
