A loss by Lenoir Rhyne to
Presbyterian, 9-7, gives the
Bears a win, loss and tie thus
far in the season. Greg
Corpening scored the lone LR
touchdown for the Bears.
Guilford's loss to Elon was
its first of the season and the
Quakers now stand 3-1.
It was a week for
runningbacks in the Carolinas
Conference last week. Cataw
ba's Ron Adams scored twice
and picked up 99 yards on 11
carries. Alex McMillan of Elon
rushed for 117 yards on 24
carries and scored once.
But Offensive Player of the
Week honors go to Mars Hill
runningback Ronnie Reeves
for his super efforts in the
Lions' 39-36 win over
Georgetown.
In the first quarter of the
high scoring battle, Reeves
returned a punt 48 yards for
the Lions' second score, and
then returned a kickoff 93
yards for their third TD of the
period.
For the next three quarters
he just ran the ball -- a total of
14 times for 95 yards on the
ground including another TD
in the fourth period. His total
yardage for the night was 285
yards - rushing and returns.
He has been averaging 4.9
yards per carry rushing.
As the Fighting Christians

three fumbles to bring him
Defensive Player of the Week

Oxendine, a sophomore
from Charlotte, has four
fumble recoveries to his credit
this season and has been a
mainstay in the Christians'
interior line. "I just happened

right times," he said.
Outstanding defensive per

by Lenoir Rhyne's Kenny
Martin, Mike Ribet of
Guilford, Tom Anderson of
Mars Hill and Bill Harrison of
Catawba.

playing outside the league this
weekend while the fifth. Mars
Hill, has an open date.
Undefeated Catawba, one of
two surprise teams in the
conference, will travel to
Emory & Henry in search of
its fourth consecutive win.
Coach Bill Faircloth's Indians
have posted wins over
Glassboro State, Mars Hill
and Newberry.
The nationally-ranked
Fighting Christians of Elon
will host Carson-Newman
Saturday afternoon at Burling
ton. Elon defeated the Eagles
last year 40-8 to claim the
number one ranking in the
NAIA that it held until losing
in the Champions Bowl to
Abilene Christian.
Guilford will attempt to get
by on the winning track at

suffering its first loss of the

The Quakers won their first
