How it Works Each household is given a standard allotment of Food Stamps based on the number of persons in the household. For instance, the allotment is $46 for a person living along, while the alotment for four people is $l5O per month. The price paid for the food stamps varies according to your income. For instance, a four person household is alloted $l5O a month, but if their total income is under S3O a month. Food Stamps are given free. The same household would have to pay $l3O if their income was SSOO for the same allotment of stamps. Either way. Food stamps save you some money. Wanna Inn a lu Food Stamps Available The Food Stamp program does not require members of a household to be related. Stamps are only given to households that share cooking facilities and eat together. You can't apply for them indivi dually unless you are living alone. It is wise to tell how much your parents give you, because a letter is sent to each parent to confirm your figure. Net income also includes wages, parental donations, and any other source of income minus deductions. Deductions are complicated, and include - tuition, medical expenses, and rent and utility bills over 30% of income. If you are even close to the cut off point, you may be eligible. Apply Soon There is an effort underway in the Federal Government to restrict the availability of Food Stamps to college students. The proposed change would make it impossible to be eligible for food stamps if you are listed as a dependent on your parents' income taxes. Don't worry too much about it, but act soon. The change has not occured yet, and once on the file, the efficiency of the Guilford County Social Ser vices Department will virtually assure you staying there, federal laws notwithstanding. Hope fully all interested students will voice their concerns so that this money may be spent more according to student demand. All Student organizations are appropriated money by the senate from an activities fund for which each student pays $70.00 as part of tuition. This year the senate has appro priated $18,000.00 to the Union.
