Homecoming games often
bring out the best in a football
team. Last year, Guilford was ,
suffering through a long
losing streak which reached 32
at its climax. Randolph Macon
was the homecoming oppo
nent and the streak became a
matter of history in only a few
hours.
Since that time, the longest
losing streak for Guilford has
only been two games. Wins
have separated the losses this
year.
Mars Hill and powerful Elon
have been the only losses for
Guilford this year. Only the
Elon game was a runaway,
28-0.
This year's edition of the
football Quakers has to be the
most improved college team in
the nation.

Smash
Hornets

Wide receiver Chris Paphi
ties lead a six touchdown
scoring assault over Randolph
Macon last Saturday as the
football Quakers crushed the
Hornets 42-7 in Ashland,
Virginia.
Paphities scored three times
after receiving passes from
quarterback Steve Watson
while fallback Billy Whitley
scored once and rushed for
127 yards.
The win got the Quakers
back on the winning track
after heartbreaking perfor
mances the two weekends
before; Against Catawba,
kicker Butch Foley missed two
medium range field goals in
the closing seconds to retail a
10*10 tie with the Indians.
Only a week before, Foley had
won the game for the Quakers
with a 31 yard kick with 15
seconds left in the game.

they tied two conference
opponents, while humiliating
a third non-conference team.

Chuck Evans was thrown out

Both Evan's and Wall's

Pleasants and Skinner each
