Reagan The Guilford College Wo men's Center has an ambi tious purpose - to educate both men and women, to bring women together, and increase communication. We are pre sently small in number but have a long list of activities in mind. We're now working on a women's poetry reading and a discussion of the ERA. With the Greensboro Women's Coalition we're bringing Linn Mason, a comedian with a one-woman act, to campus on Nov. 24 as part of a celebration of International Women's Year. We're also planning to have films and to feature speakers - both women already on campus and speakers from the Interna tional Women's Year Speak ers Bureau. Joan Bishop, a former director of placement at Wellesley, is coming in November through the Coun seling and Placement Center and we will be sponsoring teas for students and faculty to visit with her. Other plans that are not yet complete include panels and discussions about alternative life-styles, a Women's Week in the spring, letter-writing parties supporting political issues, and work on spreading birth control information on campus. The Gattfordiaa A Speaker's Bureau of 90 men and women is available for speaking engagements to all civic, religious, and social organizations. The various organizations of Guilford may also utilize the speakers offered through the Bureau. These people resources are available on a voluntary basis to speak on a wide spectrum of topics. These topics include The Feminine Image in the Arts, Black Women, Women in Politics, Women in History, Single Women, Teen Women, the family, careers, health and many more. From our Guilford faculty, Kathy Sebo, Carol Stoneburner and Ann Deagon have offered their services. Get involved! If you, or your organization, are interested in finding out more information, would like a speaker, or would like to attend the IWY dinner, contact Pat, J.T., or Vikki at the Women's Center. Or call Pam Kohl at the YWCA, 272-3461. We would like for people to be aware that we can provide certain kinds of services. We have a file with information about area gynecologists for those who are interested and would appreciate additional information from women who know Greensboro doctors. There are members in the center who have had abortions and are willing to talk to and help others who are pregnant and would like to talk to someone with experience. If necessary, we will help with finding transportation to an abortion clinic. We also have members who can tell you about Family Planning or about their experiences with different birth control devices. The Women's Center also has a small library - many of the books not in the college library. We hope to gradually expand the library but are short on funds and would appreciate donations of books by or about women or issues of special interest to women. We have also lost quite a few books in recent, years and would appreciate it if people would return any books they, find or have checked out and forgotten to return, (the list of people and what books they checked out got ruined when rain leaked into the old office in Cox!). Ii * Pretend I'm a newly issued municipal bond NOW will you try to understand me? 0 This week, on Wednesday, Oct. 1, the meeting (6:30 p.m. in the Women's Center Office on Founders' 2nd floor) will be devoted solely to planning a two-hour open house - tea. Date and time will be announced and invitations will be sent to those who've expressed an interest, but everyone is invited. Starting next week meetings will be mainly for discussion pur poses and business will be conducted outside the meet ings. Those who are interested in working on helping and planning activities should contact Pat (Bryan 8213, 292-1461), Vikki (in the bookstore M-W-F from 12-6 or home, 299-4797), or JT (855-9156) or come by the office in Founders between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meetings are presently scheduled for 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday but soon we will meet at an alternate time every other week. The Women's Center is attempting to meet the needs of more than just one kind of woman and is not a radical feminist organization. It is flexible and its orientation depends on the ideas and interests of those who want to get involved. We hope to be seeing you soon!
