Page 2 No Editor, No Quaker No applications were received this spring for the position of editor of The Quaker, the Guilford college annual. Any student with interest and qualifications in yearbook publication may still submit her or his name for consideration, accompanied by: 1. A statement of reasons for applying 2. two letters of reccom mendation from members of the faculty 3. A schedule of anticipated course load for '77-'7B and a statement of the student's present quality point average. The publications board will meet again to consider appli cation on Thursday, April 21, 1977. If interested contact Herb Poole's Office in the Library. Sattelite Housing Program BY RICHARD PHILLIPS The sattelite housing program distribution has been decided upon for the 1977- 78 school year. There will be four units used in this segment of the next year's housing program. *Dana House No. 1 will be a French house. The female residents will strive for near total immersion into French culture. French will be the "house language." The decor will be as French as funds allow. The house will sponsor cultural programs such as workshops and celebrations on French national holidays. In addition, the house plans on sponsoring an invitational dinner on the last Wednesday of each month. Recruiting Schedule' Update April 15 - 9:00 a.m. - 12rioon Representatives from the Durham Public Safety Depart ment will be in the Gallery Room of Founders Hall to discuss employment oppor tunities. A slide presentation will be made at 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., each present ation being followed by discu ssion. Please let Dick Coe know what time you would be interested in meeting with the Durham representatives. His phone number is 292-5611, Ext. 175. *Dana House No. 2 will continue to operate as an upperclass women's residence with no specific cultural or academic influence. Both the Housing Office and this year's residents were very satisfied with the success of the house and the accepted proposal was that the house continue in the same fashion. "George White House's residents will also succeed themselves. They will remain a men's cooperative house - sharing the house keeping duties. Their proposal includes plans for at least one open house per semester, one community related event per semester, and one house improvement project per semester. An outstanding feature of the George White April 20-1:00-2:30 p.m. Representative from the Kathryn Gibbs School in New York will be recruiting college students who are interested in professional training for positions as executive secre taries. April 20 - 9:00-2:00 p.m. A representative from Caro lina Action will be interviewing students in the Placement Office. Students with back ground or interest in social work, neighborhood services and citizen action should be interested. The Guilfordian proposal is the possible implementation of a solar heating system in the house to help cut heating costs. •Frazier No. 35-6 will become an "Economics House." This will be a residence fo4 male accounting, manage ment, and economics majors primarily. Their proposal in cludes plans to establish a check-cashing service in Founders Hall that will be operating several hours a day, seven days a week. The service will provide a practical op portunity for the residents to be responsible for bookkeeping and to provide a service for the community. Approval of this check-cashing system is to come from the Administra tive Council. April 21-9:30 - 4:30 p.m. A representative from the Wake County Schools will be interviewing students graduating with teaching certification. Danforth News Congratulations to senior Chris Benfey on his being awarded a Danforth Scholar ship to study at the school of his choice. Chris is the third - in succession of outstanding students at Guilford to be selected for such an honor sixty each year from across the nation. Parkhurst The National Advisory Council of the Danforth Foundation has selected Fred and Joyce for a 6-year appointment to the Danforth Associate program, prepresenting Guilford College in the Carolinas Region. The Program offers opportunities for interdisciplinary and inter institutional activities among faculty. As Danforth Assoc iates, Fred and Joyce will join A Reminder of the College Alcohol Policy Various concerns have recently been expressed by members of the Guilford College community about violations of the Alcoholic Beverage Policy. As Serendip ity Weekend approaches, it seems wise to re-state the policy and to remind students of their responsibility in regard to the policy. Based on the premise that, "Friends main tain a strong testimony against the use of intoxicating liquors," the College policy states: "As a Quaker college, Guilford continues in this tradition by advising all . . . students that the use of alcohol is not an approved part of campus life." It continues, "The College policy in regard to the use of alcoholic beverages permits such use only in individual student rooms, with the use prohibited in public areas (lounges, hallways, non residential buildings, etc.) and at campus events .(sports events, dances, etc.)." This policy is fully operative for all events such as indoor concerts, outdoor concerts, and dances. April 12,197 colleagues across the county in activities designed to encourage effective teaching, to humanize teaching and learning in the campus community, and to enhance faculty and student relation ships. The Carolinas Region, one of sixteen national regions, includes about 147 couples from 49 colleges and univer sities who meet annually and carry out projects designed to explore the relation of ethical and religious questions to higher education. A total of ten Guilford faculty members and spouses have previously been chosen: Pete and Lucretia Moore, '57; Jim and Margaret McMillan, 'SB; Carroll and Mary Feagins, '6l; Donald and Ann Deagon, '65; Mel and Beth Keiser, '69.
