September 20,1977 The Guitfordian staff offers its condolences to Amy Fribush in her time of grief. Her caterpillar, Academe, expired after a harrowing and tragic motorcycle mishap on Friday afternoon. Friends and family gathered Sunday afternoon to pay tribute to that fine caterpillar whose metamorphosis was cut short. Academe is survived by one grandmother, Pillar, a lunar moth who resides in Peoria, Illinois. Donations may be made, but no one knows quite yet to whom. Provisional grades for Semester II 1976-77 and/or Summer 1977 will stand as final grades unless: (1) Additional work justi fying a grade revision is sub mitted to the instructor by Wednesday, October 12, 1977, or (2) An extension of the time is granted by the Academic Dean. A petition signed by the student, his instructor and his advisor, listing reasons necessitating an extension to a specified date, must be sub mitted to the Academic Dean by Wednesday, October 12, 1977. Attention all Psychology Majors: There will be a meeting on September 21 at 2:00 p.m., in K234 for all students currently majoring in psychology. We will discuss graduate school and career choices and activities of the psychology club. A new advertising agency in Greensboro is looking for men and women interested in doing modeling, TV and radio talent work on a free-lance basis. Persons interested in auditioning are asked to call Thom Glace Associates at 855-7700. If you would feel more comfortable speaking to a Guilford College graudate, ask for Cissy Brooke. noodles { LJKert. -bo \ stodt| ??? ) Announcements The Guilford College Young Democrats' Club presents: Guilford County State Senate Forum, with State Senators: McNeill Smith, Kathy Sebo, and Rachel Gray to be held on Wednesday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m., in the Gallery of Founders Hall, second floor. The audience will be able to ask questions on any subject. All members of the Guilford Community are welcome and urged to attend. The Qudker staff will begin underclassmen and senior pictures on Monday, Septem ber 19. They will continue through October 21. Under classmen will be photographed in groups - a group being three or more people. Because of the extra cost of doing group pictures,- there will be a fee of SI.OO per picture, for up to 10 people. For more than 10 people the fee will be $2.50 per picture. The fee must be paid before the photo is taken. There will be no fee for the senior "candids." Photographers will be in the publications suite, upstairs in Founders, from 1:30-4:30, Monday-Friday. Reveler's Auditions: Auditions for Fall production of Rhinoceros by Eugene lonesco, will be held Monday, Sept. 19 through Wednesday Sept. 21, 7:30 p.m., Stern berger and Rehearsal Hall. Everyone welcome! Coffeehouse: Ken Harris, a blues and jazz pianist, will kick off this year's coffee house series. Ken is a former Guilford student, so some of us have heard him and we know he's a fine musician. Ken will be accompanied by a guitarist. The coffeehouse will begin at 9:00 p.m., on Tuesday September, 20 in Boren Lounge. There will be Free coffee and cake. The Guilfordian A "conversation area" in the cafeteria is being planned for Wednesday, September 21, during the lunch hours. Placards with conversation topics will be placed on several tables. Topics will include Guilford and global issues, such as "Should there be 24-hour visitation in the dorms?" and "Should marriage contracts be renewable?" If all goes well, the conversation area will be a bi-weekly activity. It is hoped that this will be a good way for students to meet other students and staff members. Learn how easy it is to develop and print your own black and white pictures and become familiar with the dark room facilities available to Guilford students on campus. The Campus Association of Photographers will be holding three workshops in basic dark room techniques this week. The first of these workshops will take place on Thursday, September 22, at 10:00 p.m. But if you're not into late night darkroom work, you may wish attend the second workshop on Saturday, September 24, at 3:30 p.m. The final workshop is scheduled for Sunday, September 25, at 2:00 p.m. All three work shops will take place at the C.A.P. darkroom in the base ment of Founders. Golden Triad Sweet Adelines: A chorus of 50 female vocalists will be appearing in Dana Auditorium on Friday, September 23, at 8:00 p.m. The chorus and their 2 quartets captured the 1977 Regional Championship which entitled them to participate in the Internationals in Los Angeles, in 1978. Their barbership music includes everything from "Charleston" to "Mississippi Mud." There will be 150 FREE tickets available soon at the Infor mation Desk, Founders Hall! _/fOornr> Sailors with Regatta experience are invited to meet to consider organizing a club for future outings. Guilford students and faculty are welcome Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m., September 27, at Frazier Apt. No. 30. SAC Nominations Deadline All nominees must have thirty copies of a statement of their qualifications in the Senate office by noon. Wed. Sept. 21. They must also attend the Senate meeting that night at 7:30. Women's Center: The Women's Center in Founders Hall will have office hours for coffee-tea, discussion, browsing in the materials or studying. The tentative sche dule is as follows and as posted in the door: Monday, 1-5; Tuesday, 10-11, 12-3; Wednesday, 12-2, 2-3; Thursday, 3-4; Friday, 1-3:30. At the intiative of Guilford College President Grimsley Hobbs, there will be an oppor tunity for members of the college community to partici pate in a midweek time of meditation each Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the Moon Room of Dana Auditorium. Everyone is invited to intend. Part-Time Jobs: The Place ment Office is the location on the campus for the listing of off campus part-time jobs in Greensboro. We recently received word that there will be 2 to 5 part time jobs becoming available about October 1. People are needed to help in the packag ing and mailing of advertise ments and other literature. Philip Pierson, poetry editor of New River Review and author of two forthcom ing collections of poetry, Natives and See Rock City, will present a reading of his own work at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Founders Hall on the Guilford College campus. This is the second of a series of readings sponsored by the Greensboro Writers Club. The public is invited. Wednesday, Sept. 21 Recreation Committee: Everyone interested in helping plan outings, games, and activities with the Union is invited to the meeting at 1:00 p.m. in the Union Suite (2nd floor Founders). Coffeehouse Committee: There will be a meeting at 8:00 p.m. in the Passion Pit to discuss possible per formers for future coffee houses. Everyone is welcome to drop in. The Philosophy Club is meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, in the Fine Arts Room of the Library to begin dis cussing Morality. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
