Quakers Come a Long Way: Finish Season 23-10
The Guilford College
Quakers finished out the
season two weeks ago with a
65-61 overtime loss to
Winston-Salem State in the
finals of the NAIA District
26 Tournament. It was a
tough one to lose as it knocked
the Quakers out of a trip to
Kansas City and a shot at the
NAIA National Championship.
Just getting to the district
finals took a super effort by
the Guilford squad. Two
weeks ago the Quakers were
involved in the Carolinas
Conference Tourney and
needed a good showing to
qualify for District play. The
Quakers made a good show
ing as they made it to the
finals, beating Catawba
95-86 and Pfeiffer 82-69.
However, they lost to High
Point 82-80 in the finals. Elton
Gross and Gary Devlin led the
Quakers in the Conference
tourney and both were selected
to the All-Tournament Team.
In the first round of District
26 play, High Point and
Guilford went at it again with
the Quakers coming out on
top 58-55. The next night the
Quakers faced the Gardner-
Webb Bulldogs who were

As of Friday, March 17, t
there were three undefeated
mens intramural basketball
teams, one in each league.
These teams are Milner 2S-A,
the Crazy Cubans, and Bryan
IN. Behind them are Coving
ton's Cowboys, Day Hops A,
and Milner IS-B, each with a
5-1 record. There could easily
be some upsets among these
top teams after Sunday
nights games between Milner
2S-A and Milner IS-B, and
between Covington's Cowboys
and the Urban Center team.
In Women's basketball, it
appeared that the regular
season would end in a three
way tie for the first place
between "The Brewery," and
Shore and Faculty/Staff.
However, such was not the
case as Binford 111 was led by
Patty Friel to a come-from
behind upset victory over
Shore last Thursday.
The final standings in regular
season women's play are:
1. Faculty/Staff 6-1
The Brewery 6-1
3. Shore 5-2
4. Binford 111 4-3
Dana /Day Hops 4-3
6. Binford II 2-5
7. Hobbs 1-6
8. binford I 0-7
All teams, men and women,
except for the teams that have
forfeited out, should be sure
to get copies of the schedule
of the post-season tourna
ment. Most team captains
have several copies and Mrs.
Clark, in the gym, has some
also.

tied for second in the NAIA
rankings with Winston-Salem
State. Guilford played a great
game against an outstanding
team and came up with a
62-59 win to put them in the
finals.
Four Seniors played their
last game for the men's team
against WSSU. They were
Elton Gross, Mike Cherry,
Steve Rosenberry and Paul
Dreschler.
Only two seniors will be
graduating off the women's
team but they are All-Confer
ence selections Cyd Atkins
and Donna Rogers.
