Lady Quakers Start Big
The Guilford College Volley
ball team chalked up two
victories in the first outing of
the season, Tuesday at
Catawba. Throughout the
tri-match the Quakers domin
ated the offense, taking
Catawba 15-10, 15-8, and
UNC-Charlotte 15-12, 15-5.
Reserves gained valuable
experience, as everyone
played. Starting this year for
the Quakers are: senior captain
Wanda Barker; co-captain
Emorie Cclby; freshman Leslie
Bowerman; and 5'11" Lynn
Zahurak, and All-State selec
tion. Rounding out the start
ing six are: junior, Edie Bailey;
and setter Cintonya Allison.
Both are transfer students.
Those able to attend the
home tri-match against N.C.
State and Appalachian State
were treated to a great
example of power volleyball.
The Lady Apps defeated the
Tennis Ladders Beginning
The first Guilford College
tennis ladder tournaments will
begin competition this week.
The turnout of interested
people has been tremendous.
We look forward to some
great competition.
The beginning ranks
were established by a random
drawing. Positions are shown
on the bulletin board in
Founders Lobby along with a
copy of the rules and an
envelope to receive the results
of the matches. Please do not
tamper with the rankings
board. Someone from the
Friends Meeting
at Reiser Home
Friendship Friends Meet
ing invites Guilford students
who are interested in Quaker
ism to be their guests for a
potluck supper this Sunday,
October 1, 5:30 p.m., at Beth
and Mel Keiser's home on
campus.
Supper will be furnished
by members of the meeting.
After dinner, Cyril and Judy
Harvey will show slides of
England where they spent last
year. There will also be a brief
presentation of the meeting's
social concerns.
The Keisers' home may be
reached by walking up into the
woods behind the football
field or by driving straight
down the dirt road at the end
of Dolley Madison just off
Friendly Avenue.
Quakers in two close games,
17-15, 16-14. The Quakers
typically aggressive style was
missing as they failed to
convert six attempts at game
point. Appalachian came
back to take both games. The
Quakers seemingly recovered
from the loss as they took the
first game from State 15-6.
Unfortunately, poor service
reception, and ineffective
blocking, against a deter
mined offense proved
Guilford's undoing as the
Wolfpack women took the
match 15-2,15-8.
Friday the Quakers traveled
to UNC-Wilmington, returning
with a win. Guilford took the
first game easily 15-2, and the
second game 15-8. The
Seahawks, however, came
back to take the third game
8-15. The Quakers recovered
in the fourth game, winning
15-11, and taking their third
match of the season.
Intramural Committee will
keep the rankings up to date.
All the people who signed
up should soon receive a list
of the rules and procedures
which will be put in the mail
boxes. Challenge matches will
begin as soon as the players
desire. We are still accept
ing people who wish to enter
the ladder. So, if you
take advantage of this excel
lent chance to meet people
with a similar interest and play
some great tennis, contact
Mrs. Clark in the gym before
Oct. 31.

We realize that you are busy,
but please take a few minutes
now! to drop me a note
in New Garden Hall or to
call me on Extension 167.
Many thanks!
