Experience learning in internship
By Tina Hodgin
Staff Writer
There is a valuable opportu
nity for "experiencial learning"
available at Guilford through
the internship program. The
students in the program regis
ter for independent study clas
ses and work for about 12 hours
a week off campus in a field that
they have, or think they have, a
career interest in.
Students who are involved in
internships are usually enthusi
astic about their experience and
encourage other students who
may be considering doing an
internship to try it also.
Mary Lynn Anderson, a Sen
ior majoring in Administration
of Justice is involved in a two
semester internship with the
Adult Probation and Parole
Office in Greensboro.
She is learning both sides of
the probation and parole office.
This semester she is working
with the court related, paper
work aspect, and next semester
she hopes to be acting as an
actual parole officer.
That will include the super
vision of about five cases and
any resulting fieldwork. Miss
Anderson loves her job and is
now sure that probation and
parole is the field in which she
wants to work.
She believes that she will
definitely find her internship to
be a valuable asset when she

Miss Waters is sure that she

they can really teach you to

One purpose of the internship
program is to help a student to
make career decisions and de
fine his/her interests. An in

student a more precise picture
of what the field is like and give
him/her more confidence in the
field.
If you are interested in doing
an internship, see Dick Coe in
his office in Bryan Hall. He can
help you find an internship to fit
your individual interests and
give you details about register
