Fund lobbying update
About a month ago, several
students including myself, at
tended the National Student
Lobby Day in Washington to
lobby financial aid. While we
were there, we were informed of
the proposed budget cuts and
then urged to return to Guilford
to initiate original action. This
feeling was particularly ex
pressed by Congressmen and
Senators who said that they were
not hearing from those who would
be the most affected: students.
For this reason, the Com
munity Senate has decided to
undertake a project which will
get our Community involved.

large-scale letter "'riting cam
paign encompassing students,

Petitions are now available for
persons wishing to become
academic senators. They are due
by April 25th. An academic
faculty and staff, parents, and

sities. Several aspects of this
plan have begun: a luncheon was
held last week with many area
high school Student Body
Presidents and principals, at
which they were informed about
the proposed cuts and told what
they could do; several weeks ago
there was a meeting of the Deans
of universities, where the prin
cipal subject was financial aid;
further, Bill Rogers and I have
co-written a letter to parents
which asks them to help us by
writing to their representatives.
To involve our campus, I urge
all students, faculty, and staff to
join in our campus wide letter
writing campaign on April 12th
