THE GUILEQRpAN . April 8. 1991.
Senator's
Notebook
Bryan Yacono
President Vance "Bowinkle"Ricks
began yet another Senate meeting on
Wednesday, April 4. Some progress
was made this week toward revising
Senate bylaws. The condom discus
sion continued this week.
From last week's meeting: The
only reason that GBLA had to make
this request to Senate is because of
the long-standing controversial ques
tion: "Should student activity fees be
spent on condoms?" If Senate de
cides in favor of the $145 purchase,
2,000 condoms would be distributed
to students who want or need them.
GBLA stressed that it's important the
precautionary steps be taken to pre
vent AIDS.
From this week's meeting: Educa
tion for condom users was stressed
heavily. It was suggested that an
educational pamphlet on how and
why to use condoms should be at
tached to each condom. Two other
opinions surfaced' 1. Pol pressure on
the administration to purchase the
condoms, and 2. college students are
adults and should be responsible for
their own behavior andA* protection.
