Ketchum heads new staff

Mike Ketchum: Head Football Coach
Mike Ketchum ('7B) took over the head
football position after the departure of
Ketchum
during his playing days.
After coaching high school football for
two years in Florida, Ketchum joined the
staff at the University of Florida under Head
Coach Charlie Pell. As a graduate assistant
at Florida, Ketchum coached tight ends and
the offensive line.
In 1985, Ketchum moved to Carson-
Newman College and worked with the of
fensive line. The next year he moved to the
defensive line and was a member of the
1986 NAIA championship team.
Three years later Ketchum jumped at the
chance to return to his alma mater to again
coach the offensive line. In 1989, Ketchum
coached the defensive line and was named
defensive coordinator.

good situation, as former coach Forbes left
him with 43 lettermen and 15 starters return
ing from a 7-3 team.
"This has always been my dream," said
Ketchum. "I've always wanted to coach at
a small college, and to have it be Guilford is
something special."
John Falvey : Assistant Football Coach
John Falvey, a former sergeant in the U.S.
Marines, will coach inside linebackers for
the Quakers.
Falvey played his college ball at St.
Lawrence University in New York and came
back to his alma mater to coach wide receiv
ers, the secondary, and the offensive and
defensive line for five years. While com
pleting his masters degree at Norwich Uni
versity in Vermont, Falvey coached the of
fensive and defensive tines.
Falvey will also coordinate the defense
for the Quakers and will work as assistant
baseball coach.
Rick Camp: Assistant Football Coach
Rick Camp will work with the secondary
for Guilford. He was a football and track
standout for Rutherfordton-Spindale Cen
tral High School and went on to star as a
defensive back at Lenoir-Rhyne College,
where he was a captain.
Camp has put in coaching stints at R-S
Central and Gardner-Webb College. In 1990,
he coached wide receivers atN C A&T State
University.
