Cfte &iriltortrian 2 NEWS LINE Poetry Center undergoes change The poetry center in the library is under new man agement and has anew name. The Southeast Poetry Center has been moved to St. Andrews College as a result of the retirement of Ann Deagon. The poetry center will now be called Guilford College Writer's Center and will be under the auspices of the En glish department. The first event in the cen ter will be a poetry reading by Judy Longley and Michael McFee at 7:3opm on Mon, Nov 16. AIDS Memorial Quilt to visit Triad A portion of the NAMES project AIDS Memorial Quilt, an international me morial to those who have died of AIDS, will be on display in Greensboro, beginning Nov. 30 at the Greensboro Coliseum Exhibition Hall. The 7pm opening cer emony will be led by com munity leaders. The display will continue on Dec. 1 (World AIDS Day) with a 10:30 am symbolic unfold ing of a portion of the quilt. The display will be closed on Dec. 3 with a closing cer emony at s:3opm, where lo cal panals will be officially dedicated. The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt began in San Francisco, in June of 1987, as a personal response to the AIDS tragedy. The Quilt is comprised of about 22,000 individual pan els. Senator's Notebook Senate Secretary Brian Sugioka There are two corrections to last week's Senator's Notebook: Michael Pruden's absence from Senate is ex cused, and the amount of munchie money for the new meal plan is $l2O, not $lO3 as originally written. The November 4 meeting began with Executive Officer reports. Jamie reported that the Judicial Review Task Force will be doing a review of the judicial system at Guilford and will make improvements and changes as they find necessary. They will be considering changes to the honor code system to encourage students to obey it and examining the judicial systems role in dealing with vio lence on campus. SRC is working on developing guidelines for enforcement of the keg policy. SRC co-chair Reid Dossinger reported that a Dana house that had been having some problems with their theme has submiued anew theme and will be on probation until Christmas. News This Week Wednesday, November 18 pm 5:30 Mid-week Meeting for Worship. 9:00 FLAG meeting. AAC is working on encouraging students to voluntarily turn in evalua tions of their professors. AAC is also developing a campaign to raise the profile of the Career Development Center. Reid Dossinger, reported that En vironmental Concerns Committee and Forevergreen are in the midst of a trash bag campaign where people carry a clear plastic bag with them to place all the nonrecycleable trash they use in the bags. They hope to raise con sciousness about the amount of gar bage a person throws away in a week. The Student Services Committee and the Community Relations Com mittee are working together on a Sup port Services appreciation day. The November 4 Senate meeting was the first week of the Senate Fac ulty Invitation Program. Every week each of two Senators are asked to in vite a faculty member to Senate. Dr. Stoesen thanked Senate for invit ing him and gave a short, fascinat ing talk on the history of student government at Guilford. Stoesen said that the first student govern ment at Guilford started in 1928 and consisted of separate govern ments for men and women. Senators were given their offi cial Senate nameplates. Senate members were asked to submit comments they have about Senate meetings to Jen. The Executive Council will use this feedback to make improvements in Senate meetings. Anyone who would like to offer constructive criticism about Senate may drop a note in the box of any of the Senate ex ecutives: Jen- 17238, Jamie -17658, Brian- 17599, Keith -17620, or Laura-17211.
