Warsaw soloists to perforin The Guilford college artsETC Series will present the Warsaw Soloists in concert on Wednesday, Feb. 24, in Dana Auditorium beginning at 8:00 pm. The 14 virtuoso string mem bers who compromise the War saw soloists first joined to gether in 1985. Featured will be Hungarian pianist Klara Wuertz, who won the coveted First Prize in the Ettore Pozzoli International Piano competi tion in Milan, Italy, in 1985 at age 20. Tickets are $lO for the gen eral public; $8 for senior citi zens and children. Group dis counts are available for eight or more. Call 316-2400 for ticket information. Senator's Notebook Senate Secretary Brian Sugioka Petitions for Senate are due on Feb 2 and elections will take place on Feb 23. There are currently no declared candidates, but 3 petitions have been taken from the Information Desk. James Green has agreed to serve as the Student Services Commit tee chair. James was the chair of the committee last year and was in large part responsible for a number of improvements, includ ing the waffle makers and the woks being placed in the cafete ria. James will be up for approval at the January 27 meeting. Another personnel addition took place last week with the ap proval, as expected, of Rob Kusch as Special Projects chair and Meredith Shea as Community Relations co-chair. Auction Committee chair Michael Pruden reported that phone calls to businesses have begun and are pro ceeding well. The phone bank in Mew Garden Hall has been reserved for the next two weeks, and volunteers are be ing gathered to place calls to area businesses. Some Senators felt new locks with keypads requiring a code to open should be implemented. Oth ers felt the current locks should be used at all times. Still others fen telephones should be installed by the entrances, and visitors should have to call their hosts to let them in to the building. Academic Affairs Com mittee was asked to look into re moving the plus/minus grading system because some people feel it unfairly lowers GP. A.'s. AAC was also asked to investigate get ting teachers to stop assigning books that are used little or not at all in the actual class. In addition to these two items, AAC will be examining the academic regula tions in the Student Handbook to look for areas in need of change. Studentßesidence Council was asked to look in to ways of getting students to participate more fully in campus activities.
