Student violators are also subject to charges through the cam pus judicial system. The Guilfordian news Students speak out at forum about changes BILL MCCORD staff writer A forum of approximately eighty students and faculty convened on Monday, February 10, in the cafete ria to discuss the broad five-point interdisciplinary curriculum changes devised by a faculty and student-represented curriculum committee. The forum drew many frank and honest opinions from people grap pling with hard questions that Guil ford College, as an institution dis tinct from others, must answer in the preceding years. Questions ranged from "What does a Guilford liberal art education mean?" "What is its value both at Guilford and after college?" Co-facilitated by first-year stu dent Jessie White, and Adele Wayman, Clerk of the Faculty and Art Professor, the forum was con ducted in the manner of a Society of Friends business meeting. With what Cory Birdwhistell, student representative on the com mittee, deemed "the educational future of Guilford" before the fo rum, and a moment of silence, the floor was opened to student's ques tions and opinions. These were directed to students, and attentive-but-silent faculty members, covered a gamut of is sues. Despite different objections to the character and necessity of some core requirements, (such as the for eign language, First Year Seminar, and Interdisciplinary Studies re quirements), many students empha sized the value and breadth of their core requirements, and even sug Robbery in locker room snocks team TIM FORBES staff writer On Sunday, 14 wallets were sto len from the men's lacrosse locker room. The larceny occurred while the team was practicing from 2:30- 4:30. Over SSO in cash was taken, but driver's licenses, credit cards, and ATM cards were also stolen. Buoying these general senti ments were new and original ideas to be dutifully considered. A Theory and Practice compo nent, which incorporates a com pulsory class, internship, or some equivalent into the academic ca reer, was considered valuable. A suggestion for the abolition of the grading system, in favor of written evaluations, was offered as well, although this is not a part of the current curriculum revi sions. What impact the forum will Gerbracht said. There was no sign of forced entry and the team returned from practice to find the locker room door unlocked. It is believed that the perpetrator has a key of some kind. This is not the first time some thing like this has occurred. Last fall the same locker room, then occupied by the football team, was broken into during a game. In this incident there was again no forced entry. A source at the YMCA believes actually have upon the curriculum changes is not known. There was no dialogue between faculty mem bers and students, but the debate and discussion was heartfelt. If anything, the forum should gauge the quality and characters of Guil ford College students during a time of such essential reflection and change. The locker rooms are adjacent to the YMCA, where hundreds of people have access to the facilities. Marcus Harvey who is the super visor of the security control room said, "It is an unusual situation because there is so much public access to Ragan Brown Field house." Security did not have a report ready at the time this article was being prepared and presently the perpetrator is unknown.
