8 It Came From the Video Store BY WILL DODSON Features Editor Sometimes a great title can dis guise a terrible, terrible movie (if you've read previous articles, you might remember dogs like "Canni bal Hookers" and "Women's Prison Massacre"). Call me a wild man, but I can never re sist the danger, Wfm After all, I might just hit paydirt. Which brings me to this week's flick, "Three on a Meathook." It, like "Texas Chainsaw Mas sacre , " "Psycho," "Si- lence of the Lambs," and countless others, is based on the crimes of can nibal/necrophilic/my personal hero Ed Gein. That basis, naturally, has absolutely no bearing on the movie. The plot is standard fare: Billy, a troubled loner, lives with his fa ther waaaaaaaay out in the country. A group of young women out on a weekend excursion (skinny dipping in a public lake, as all women do) experience car trouble late at night. Billy stops to help and shows off his mechanical expertise by glancing at the engine in pitch dark ness and saying "Yep, it's busted." He invites the girls to stay at his place, kind soul that he is, until the service station opens in the morn ing. Although its obvious that Dad is the killer, Billy is really stupid, and is convinced that he did it himself. So he goes to town to get real drunk. Did I mention it's 1976? Great hair, becca Lee brings her girl friend (hey, it's 1976! Free love still reigns!). Dad goes psycho, and you get to see him playing with a severed foot. The rest I have to keep secret. I have to recommend "Three on a Meathook" simply for the hair, the clothes, and the porno-meets-hor ror-movie soundtrack. Billy's girl friend and Billy's girlfriend's girl friend are also notable for having acting abilities on par with plywood Rating: If you live your life ac cording to the gospel of "Three on a Meathook," you're automatically cool. Furthermore, this girl gets her head chopped off with an axe and the look on her severed head is re ally funny. Faculty Profile: Ken Cameron ♦A botany professor that's allergic to plants? Second-year professor Cameron a study in contrasts. BY CANDICE ROSENFELD connection we personally have Staff Writer with nature. Can you imagine a botanist who is allergic to plants? For Ken Cameron, taking daily medications is a small price to pay in order to continue studying a world which great clothes, great soundtrack. Billy gets real drunk and the barmaid decides to take him home and sleep naked with him. They fall in love and Billy invites her to the farm. She fascinates and enthralls him. In fact, he opti mistically re marks with a smile that it is "good to face your enemies." As new students are discovering, Guilford is pep pered with many unique and colorful professors. Ken Cameron is a fairly new ad dition to this team, just in his second year of teaching in the biology de partment. This plant lover has much to offer Guil ford outside of his field. He is an extremely well-rounded individual. Be- sides his enlightening classes, he has an additional appreciation for the arts. In fact, he double-ma jored in music as well as botany. His experiences expand out side not only this area, but also the country, giving him an apprecia tion for other cultures. Recently, he spent three weeks in China. This was along with his usual trip to England in the summers. The Royal Botanic Gardens is his usual favorite, though meeting the Queen of England was the high light of one of his trips. Cameron's classes have much to offer to students beyond just bi ology. His classes will help develop a greater understanding of the 2 j£\ ; r | f| f' ft | s - !-,:s travelled all HR; - search of rare plants. The Guilfordian September 5, 1997 He challenges students "to think about the kingdom of plants in a way they've never thought of before." Most people take plants for granted; few people realize they influence everything we do. Also, he is the advisor of both the Outdoors Club and Biology Honor Society. Although being new, Cameron has already "jumped in with both feet to the job" and en courages students to do the same. (danna (sprite.? Come to the Guilfordian meetings on Monday nights at 7:30.
