Corrections News Quakers CONTINUED FROM PG. 1 tor programs for Guilford and the surrounding community. In addition, the Center is re sponsible for the development of Guilford's Quaker Leadership Scholars Program (QLSP). QLSP is described in its statement of purpose as a program which "en ables the committed Quaker Stu dent to utilize the rich Quaker resources of the college and wider Friends community to deepen and expand involvement in the Religious Society of Friends." These programs are just one way Quakerism can be felt in the Guilford community. For the most part, it is the very culture of Guilford which springs from Quaker values. "The clear com fort that this campus has as op posed to other campuses," says Carter, "is deeply rooted in Quaker beliefs in equality." Sophomore Jenny Craigie, a resident advisor in Binford Hall, agrees. "I feel that the Quaker influence has made me more of Some Of Our Pizza Toppings May Seem A Little Square. Welcome back, and have a great year! • Excellent part-time jobs • 150 fresh toppings * Incredible award-winning pizzas * Amazing lunches We didn't invent pizza...it just tastes that way. 4508 West Market Street • Greensboro • 854-3555 3700 Lawndale Drive • Greensboro • 282-9003 LIMITED DELIVERY AREA. The Guilfordian September 12,1997 a resource and less of a discipli narian," Craigie said. QLSP par ticipant Hayden Tatman, also a sophomore, feels that Quaker values do pervade the commu nity. "Quakerism at Guilford di rectly affects only the Quaker students," Tatman said, "but it indirectly affects all the stu dents. When asked what he thought about the role of Quak erism in the lives of Guilford students, Carter replied, "Guil ford is a place where spiritual ity is taken seriously." He went on to say that, "Many students come to Guilford refugees from religious malpractice." Carter was careful to explain that "In thy-face Quakerism isn't our style," although many Guilford students do begin attending meetings while at Guilford and continue to do so after they graduate. Carter put it best when he explained "Quakerism at Guilford is more caught than taught."
