CoURTESY OPELIKA PICTURES Arts ETC presented the acclaimed film Family Name last Friday. "[Sternberger] was packed; there were over 200 people there," Watkins said. "It tends to be a very popular event." Sophomore Sally Hickerson and her mother Steph Hickerson, who came from Bell Buckle, TN, for the weekend, were highly enter tained by the coffeehouse. "I think my mom really got a News lies, saying he was pleased with the start of the academic year and was glad to see such a good turnout. Daisy said there were about 700 people who ate at the brunch. The football game proved to be a favorite event, as well as the men's soccer game. If the re maining faculty covered the depar tures through "creative adaptation," perhaps more direct cuts could be avoided. Now the task force has been dis banded, and the decision-making has passed into other hands. Kathy Adams is a member of the advisory committee on departmental review which is reviewing the suggestions of the task force. "The purpose of the committee is to design a departmental review process," said Adams. In fact, the committee is work- Founders, cont'd from page 1 more hangout space is needed." Olds also cited a separate area for indoor dances and more room for the book store as some other concerns in Founders. The student representative to the Facilities Committee, Steve Karakasidis, stated that he had very little information about the pro posal. "Our main emphasis on the committee has been on the science center," said Karakasidis. Reactions from students varied Corrections The Guilfordian makes every effort to be accurate and re sponsible. On Saturday evening Arts ETC sponsored the critically-ac claimed documentary film Family Name, whose producer, Macky Alston, was present at the event. The film has received various honors, including the Freedom of Expression award which pays trib ute to the documentary film which best investigates, informs, and edu cates the public about an issue. "It was very thought-provok ing," junior Erin Vermilye said of the film. "My dad and I really enjoyed watching it together." The film traces Macky's search for descendants of slaves and slave owners from plantations owned by his ancestors. Macky led a discus sion and answered questions after the film showing. Those documents would then be employed in a five-year review of each department. The goal of this review is to identify strengths and problem areas of departments. Restructuring is a delicate pro cess. When departments are moved or become obsolete, professors'jobs, as well as students' majors, are at stake. For this reason, Adams feels that the review is a more humane way to handle the necessary confrontation of these issues. "Change is always hard, but the best way to do it is to get everybody involved in that change together to talk about it, seeing if it can work," Adams said. on the proposal to expand Founders. "I would like to see an additional setting to eat in in the new wing so that it would give us some diversity and choices in our eating," said first year student Veronica McNeill. Other students, however, felt that there was no need for the proposed wing. "They're destroying the nice scenery by building another wing," said first-year student Wendy Lam. "It's a nice area as it is, and there are already enough things inside Founders."
