Around 50 people gathered in Boren lounge to watch tensions rise between concerned students and administrators. A key question that students raised was whether the college is already taking small steps to outsource services without keep ing the entire community in formed. According to students Jessica Justice, Megan McCall, and Karuna Markman, the answer is yes. These students have been con ducting their own investigation on the college's proposed outsourcing. McCall started off the meet ing by stating that landscapers from Budd Services, a company used by other schools that outsource, were seen on campus last summer. Celebration planned for Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday From Staff Reports Guilford students will enjoy their only one-day holiday of the school year Monday when the col lege celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Gillis also confirmed that Budd Services was hired over the summer to perform landscap ing since Guilford does not own the necessary sophisticated equip ment. Cecil McDowell, head of housekeeping, along with Gillis, said that Budd Service has been hired temporarily in the past to perform tasks such as landscaping and stripping old wax off floors. Speculation as to whether Guilford has already begun to outsource was heightened when Justice raised the question of whether the college owed money to Budd Services. According to McCall, Guilford owes $20,000 to Budd Services for work they have done in the past. Vehemently defending this charge, Gillis stated that Budd Ser vices was not paid at first because the work they had completed was not satisfactory to the college. There was an agreement be tween Guilford and Budd Services that the college would not pay for the services unless they were deemed satisfactory.
