S 2 The Guilfordian Sports Washington wins fourth straight Division 111 women's basketball title Courtesy of Associated Press DANBURY, CT - Tasha Rodgers ended her collegiate career in style as she scored a career-high 36 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Wash ington University of St. Louis, MO won its fourth-straight NCAA Division 111 Women's Basketball National Champi onship. Saturday night, Washing ton defeated Messiah College, 67-45 in front of 1,974 fans at Western Connecticut State University's Feldman Arena. Rodgers was named the tournament's Most Outstand ing Player for the third straight year. The Bears, (28-2) led by five points, 40-35 with 12:28 remaining before Rodgers, who was named Division 111 Page 16 Player of the Year on Thurs day, took over. After back-to back buckets by Washington's Jennifer Rudis, Rodgers made steals that led to easy lay-ins on three straight Falcon pos sessions. During a fouT minute span and by the time Rodgers' outburst was over, Washington built a 21-point bulge, 56-35. Rudis scored 15 points for the Bears and was named to the all-tournament team along with Ohio Wesleyan's Katy Sturtz, Messiah's Amy Hitz and Emmanuel's Brianne Bognanno. Hitz was the only Falcon, to reach double figures in the scoring column as she netted 10 points. Rodgers accounted for 54% of Washington's points after hitting 15 of 26 shot from the field.
