May 3, 2002 Local news Winston-Salem A 77-year-old woman lost $5,600 to a man posing as a po lice officer. The man told her that he needed the money to catch a criminal suspected of stealing money from spouses of the re cently deceased. The phony po lice officer told her to meet him at a local K-mart store with the money in cash. When she ar rived, he flashed her a badge and took the money, promising to return it to her account. Police are still searching for the perpe trator. Arcadia Arthur Long, 37, was ar rested and charged with posses sion of marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for drug purposes, maintaining a vehicle for drug purposes, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Davidson County Sheriff Gerald Hege says that more charges are to come. Deputies found over 84 "high grade" marijuana plants in Long's basement. The average price for "low-grade" marijuana is around SIOO per ounce; Long's plants would have sold for about S6OO per ounce, according to the Sheriffs Department.
