Community Senate: Changing of the Guard Seth Feinberg Staff Writer The Guilfordian sat down with the newly elected Senate executives for 2003-2004, Floyd McKissick, Tamara Asad, Laura Myerchin, and Jason Terry in order to gain a better un derstanding of their goals for the up coming year. What are your goals for next year? How do you plan to imple ment them? We hope to be able to increase stu dent involvement in Community Senate and issues on a consistent basis. We hope to be able to keep students informed about any and all issues concerning change in student life. These include improvements in and work on student housing; the issue of ath letic credit in the form of independent study; renovation of the Underground to create an area for students to interact; continuing the tradition of anti-racism training and creating anti-homophobic training; creating a better relationship with CCE students; improving the student food services; and most importantly, creating a bridge between students and adminis tration to address any other issues the student body feels a need to address. Is there one specific issue that you feel strongly about? How do you feel that Community Senate can help implement change? We feel very passionate about issues concerning sexual awareness and racism. We feel these issues and many more simi lar need our attention and dedication for improvement. We will do our very best to stay diligent and make sure these issues are not forgotten. We hope students WILL use steering as a tool for change. What issues do you want to build on that were a focus of the last administration? Is there anything that you feel wasn't addressed enough? We hope to build on the responsibil ity of elected/appointed senate representatives (senators). We also hope to increase attendance at Senate meet ings by involving as many students as possible in consensus decisions made during meetings. What do you plan on doing to address continuing student con cerns about housing and the meal plan? We hope that students will use Sen ate/steering and relay their concerns to us. We are aware of the concerns about campus dining and other housing con cerns and hope to further the studies/ investigations into these matters to see what can be done to make students happy. Most importantly weneed students to help us help them. The best thing students can do to aid any concern is to make sure they present their concern to the appro priate individual. We will always be avail able to take student concerns. Is there anything else you'd like to add? We would like to thank the college community for allowing us to serve them. We will always do our best to make sure i;||| : ' ' 7^:' ' l "fc J* ■• A ■\: • "■■; •. :: ;.. ■ .
