Page 5 Theft continues An unidentified thief stole sound equipment out of the digital sound design classroom in Bauman. The thief remains at large while the theatre department fac es the financial and procedural difficulties of replacing missing equipment. Page 4 FORUM Staff editorial Both Coca-Cola and Pepsi have unethi cal business practices, and to uphold its Ethical Purchasing Policy, Guilford should not do business with either corporation. Page 10 SPORTS Football Volleyball After receiving $1.33 million to reno vate the stadium in 2006, the Quakers played the first football game under new lights. The entire event was a huge suc cess after a crushing early defeat. Page 11 Despite a stong effort, the volleyball team lost their conference opener against Randolph. Head Coach Emily Hayes was pleased with her team's effort. Page 11 ' :fj 11 FEATURES Bird performs Musician Andrew Bird played a show at the Carolina Theatre in Durham on Sept. 12. True to form, the show was char acterized by a unique set, whimsical in struments - and lots of whistling. Page 7 foam pmty W&N Underwater Italians Six Italian scuba divers will live in a housing complex 15 meters below the ocean's surface. They will stay for two weeks to see if humans can live in the ocean without affecting the environment. Page 7 Gag rule repealed The Senate passed an amendment to the 2008 foreign aid bill revoking the Mexico City Policy, which withdraws funds from foreign NGOs that support abortion. The Guilfordian exists to provide a high-quality, reliable, informative and entertaining forum for the exchange of ideas, information and creativity within Guilford Col lege and the surrounding community. General staff meetings for The Guilfordian take place every Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the commons on the 2nd floor of Founders Hall, and are open to the public.
