Spring has finally sprung. On April 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the CCE Student Government Association hosted its annual Spring Fling celebration. It was a day to let your hair down, exhale and have some fun. This has been a Guilford tradition since 2002. Fingers were crossed that the cloudy sky would hold its rain until the event was finished. CCE students with children in tow, traditional students, faculty and staff alike shared in camaraderie. See spring FLING I Page 7 NEWS Second annual LGBTQQA symposium held on campus BY JAMIE LUCKHAUS Staff Writer "Guilford is known for being the go-to-class-without- shoes, granola-eating liberal institution," said senior and Lead Student Organizer Beatrice Franklin while sipping a Coke. She is in desperate need of caffeine after preparing all day for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Allies Symposium in the Bayard Rustin Community Center. "We have the core values that we like to talk about... but sometimes because of that, we get this idea that we don't have to address issues of racism or sexism or homophobia, and that's a problem," said Franklin. These issues were among the many topics covered at the second annual LGBTQQA Symposium held April 27, sponsored by the Bayard Rustin Center. The event addressed the roles the LGBTQQA community has in social justice movements and how these movements are important for liberation.
