THE SALEMITB JINGLES. Oliveen Porterfield’s just returned from Mt. Airy— While there, snow came, and spring clothes she did carry! Annie Blair Bristol forsook us, and did roam, To Hollins, you know, her ex-college home! Do you wonder why Ann Davis’ face is wreathed in smiles ? She’s going home to Martinsville—not so many miles! A girl of Salem, Greensboro now en- grulfs, Her name—would you believe it—is Alice Belle Rulfs! Lost, strayed, or stolen: Two cute “Cat's”— We have an inkling, however, they’ve gone to Statesville far rats! Lizzie Roop—again her name I in voke! Went this week to a dance in Roanoke. Mary Prestum Bynum last week went to Germantown— This news is tardy—but has just been found! Back under Salem’s wings is Clara Pope— May she always remain is our earnest hope! Greensboro secreted quite a number cd Salemites last week-end, Sara Boren, Ray Dawson, and the two “Marthas” we did lend! Back again from Charlotte is Marian Propst, We were afraid that cupid had per suaded her to elope! , JOKES. Freshman on night of the Kiwanian dinner—Oh! I’m going to dress up to night. The Hawaiians are coming. M. V. Oh! Mary Lou, listen to the ice cracking on the limbs out there in the square. M. L. B. When I fell out there a minute ago it was limbs cracking on the ice. Pud: Seeing Sarah preparing to make an announcement at dinner—Are we going to 'have a house meeting. Bessie: No! We are going to have ice cream. A BRIGHT SIMON. Annie Kate; You know, I think Dick is two-faced, don’t you ? Izzie: Well, to be frank, Annie, I do not. Annie Kate: Well, Izzie, will you tell the reason why you think he is not? Izzie: I am sure if he was he would wear the other face some time. FROM MEREDITH. Miss Gertrude Royster has been ap pointed Dean of Women for the re mainder of the spring semester. This position was left vacant by the recent death of Miss Evelyn Campbell. Miss Royster has been director of Physical Education for several years, and is ably qualified to fill the position she now holds. This week is Mission Study Week at Meredith. Each evening at 6:45, seven different classes are conducted by ladies from out in town. Practically the entire student body is enrolled, and it is hoped taht many will take the ex aminations. Thirty-five Juniors and Seniors were the guests of the State College Agri cultural men on Saturday evening, February 11, at their annual recep tion. The boys made delightful hosts it is hoped that many will take the ex joyed by the Meredith guests. A- Math Club has recently been or ganized under the direction of Prof. E. F. Canady, head of the Math De partment. This is the third club formed this year for the purpose of giving the advanced students oppor tunity to do profitable as wel las in teresting research work, the other two being a Chemistry Club and a Class ical Club. The work on The Oak Leaves, the Meredith annual, is rapidly nearly completion, and will go to the press in a few days. An edition of The Twig, sacred to the memory of Miss Evelyn Campbell, Dean of Women, who died in the Col lege infirmary December 23, was is sued last week. The Acom, the col lege magazine also is to publish a memorial edition soon. FROM ELON. Elon College, N. C., Feb. 20.—I. 0. Houser, the edit&r of the Phipsieli, an nounces that all of the material for the college annual is ready for the press and promises to give to the campus the finished product early in April. The staff for the 1923 Phipsoli was elected by the Junior class on last Saturday afternoon. E. C. White, a member of the Maroon and Gold staff this year, was elected editor-in-chief and Roy Holme was elected business manager. Extensive preparations are being made here for a celebration of George Washington’s birthday. All of the college dining halls will be decorated for the occasion and at five o’clock the Clio annual dinner will be served by the Clio Literary Society. At eight p.m. the society will give its annual entertainment in the college audi torium. The entertainment this year will be one of Harry Hamilton’s plays entitled, “For the Love of Johnny.” FROM DAVIDSON. Davidson, Feb. 18.—Plans are al ready being made for Junior Speaking by the different organizations on the campus. The Junior class has ap pointed a committee to attend to the duties of that class and the Dramatic Club is practicing o(n three plays it expects to give at that time. H. L. McKeithen and P. D.
