A. is looking for ward to the meeting of Association Cabinet next month, for which they will be hostesses. Misses Golda and Velma Cline spent the week-end at their home in Ashe ville, where Miss Velma Cline played in a recital. Miss Mary Bradham spent Sunday in Greensboro. Miss Elizabeth Leight was at her home in Walkertown over Sunday. Miss Mildred Morrison has returned from her home in Greensboro where she spent several days. Miss Carrie Moore Neal spent Sun day at her home in Walnut Cove. Miss Ethel Cox visited her sister in High Point the past week-end. Miss Pauline Wolff spent Sunday at her home in Rural Hall. Misses Adelaide Armfield, Katharine Kincaid, Alice Cilley and Lois Crowell visited Mrs. Millis in High Point last week-end. Misses Jean Abell and Margaret Wellons have returned after spending several days at their home in Smith- field. Misses Emily Moye and Elizabeth White were guests of Miss Lila Henkel at Statesville last week-end. Miss Lois Neal spent Sunday in town as the guest of Mrs. Lasley. Miss Hester Banks spent the week end at Davidson. Miss Lillian Moseley and her sister. Miss Hattie Moseley, ex. ’22, visited in Charlotte over Sunday. BIRTHDAY DOIN'S. Yes’m! There was a birthday party in “Jo” Shaffner’s room Tuesday night, and this was an unusual one, for in stead of the one conventional guest, there were three claiming the day as their own. As the snowy Angel’s food did not give the ages singly or collectively of these three lucky maids, their names are subject to alphabetical order; Ella Aston, Marion Cooper, and Eleanor Shaffner. i For half hour, merry pandemonium; reigned, intermixed with lovely bon-: bons, “more” cake, and the Vic’s latest.' At the last tap of the light bell, there i was a unanimous chant of, | “Second by second, in every way, I we’ve enjoyed this party more’n we can say”, by the following: “Jo" Shaff- ner, Dot Sessoms, “E. P.” Parker,' “Pud” Griffin, Hannah Weaver, “Jim” Pfohl, “Strowd”, “Hidtorj^’ Lyerly, and Elizabeth Connor. I A Fisherman’s Wife Nettie A Gas Man’s Wife Meta A Marksman’s Wife Amy Misses Bright McKemie, Julia Be thea, and Alice Lyerly tied for the prize—each of these having scored a hundred. They drew straws for the prize and Miss McKemie won. She was presented with a box of beautiful hand-made linen handkerchiefs. A newsboy, impersonated by Miss Ruth Reeves, entered crying “Extra Salemite! News of great importance!” A copy of the “Extra” was present ed to each grade It read as follows: "Announcing the engagement of Miss Carolyn Bright McKemie to Mr. William Richard Turman. “The many friends of Miss McKemie will be interested to learn of her en gagement to Mr. Turman. She is the attractive daughter of Mr. W. B. Mc Kemie of Atlanta, Georgia, and has been a student at Salem College for the past four years. While here she has maintained a very high standard of scholarship, and has made many many friends in the student body. “Mr. Turman is also of Atlanta, and holds a responsible position with the Southern Railway Company. He is known to us here, as he has visited at the college on several occasions. “The friends and classmates of Miss McKemie join in wishing her much success and happiness in the years to come.” Miss McKemie was presented with a lovely hand-made linen towel by the hostesses of the occasion. Refreshments, fruit salad, sand wiches, coffee and salted nuts were passed. After the defreshments a social hour was held during which many of the guests contributed original stunts by way of entertainment.
