In the modern manner, was Gershwin’s prelude with syncopated rhynithms and “jazzy” harmony. Beethovian’s B flat concert with or gan accompinent by Dean Vardell brought the program to a climactic close. , Louise Norris’ voice gave lovely eoloristic affects particularly in her second number, “At Times My Thoughts Come Ih-ifting,” by Brahms, and in the aria from Saint- Saens’s “Samson and Dalili.” As well as having an unusually rich quality in her voice, Louise portray ed her ability to perform light and novelty numbers such as “There’s Something I’ve Been Wanting” and “Maria Glutton.” Miss Thompson’s piano accompani ments, sometimes light, then majes tic, added much to the succeSs of the recital.. Ushers, friends of the performing students, were: Virginia Breakell, Muriel Brietz, Ella Walker Hill, Louise Jackson, Marion Norris, and Elizabeth Winget. SWIMMING POOL Wednesday night, following an un usually hot day, the pool was open ed for the first time this year. For the remainder of the year, swim ming officials hvae announced that it will be opened on week days from 10:00 to 1:00 in the morning, from 2:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon, and from 10:00 to 10:30 at night. The hour from 3:00 to 4:00 is reserved for Academy Students, but any col lege students so desiring may also swim then. Moreover, this year for the first time the pool will be open ed on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 to .^:00. Fred Waring’s idea of writing new school songs to order was in re sponse to petitions signed by thou sands of students from nearly every American college for an original Waring song.
