Sings With Opera
When fhe telephone rang and
I heard a melodious voice say, “Did
someone here call Jane -Frazier?”,
I knew a bit of North Carolina was
speaking.
Yes, this was Jane Frazier, 1945
graduate of Salem College. Jane
arrived in New Orleans by plane
September 1 to join the New Orleans
Opera House Association, formerly
known as the old French Opera of
New Orleans. Jane hopes to gain
experience in acting and singing
from the five-month season which
opens in- November with twenty
performances — operas such as
‘ ‘ Manon,” ‘ ‘ Pagliacci,” ‘ ‘ Carmen,”
“Hansel and Gretel,” and “The
Old Maid and the Thief.” Jane, who
has performed the leads in some of
the same operas here in Winston-
Salem, will understudy for a leading
part in the coming opera season, be
a member of the Chorus, and a per
former of bit parts. Ag Jane puts
it—“As soon as somebody with a
‘bit’ part breaks a leg. I’m going
to grab her part.”
In June of this year, Jane Frazier
completed her course in voice at
