From your letter, however, you don’t seen very re laxed. I should think you’d be s o pleased t o have gotten m y gr.'^des and therefore completely finished with my first semester. Wasn’t that C on religion grand! As for those two D’s^—why Mother, that really is an excellent grade. I assure you very few people get them. A)iyway, just disregard them because I should have had a B in both of tlicm. You see, in Psych, the exam was a little harder than T expect ed and you know I couldn’t re sist going out with Bill the night before it. After all, he was go- i n g back t o Davidson and I wouldn’t even talk to him for two w(’oks. As for that other D, on Knglish—that was absolutely a Tnistake so don’t wo,rry about it a moment longer. It was just that I forgot to write the semester term [)aper and it appears that that had something to do with oui grade! Isn’t that odd— Now I know that E on Math again was kinda bad. But Mama, you can’t do aritljnietic either and Daddy, I did apply myself. Every night T made myself spend fully an hour On the assignment. Katherine and I worked together so we would be sure to really study. It was quite beneficial too—Hoither, don’t let me forget to show you the new up-sweep hair-do we figured out. It’s a little complicated to get ar ranged because you have to use soap and fourteen combs but the effiK't is HO satisfying. And we al so discovered some perfectly gor geous new shades of finger-nail polish mixing Chen Yu with Cutex and think of the money we save that way! Katherine is so good with color. So, after all that studying I just don’t think that teacher likes me— I’m listening to her explain to morrow’s examples now and you know, every time she looks at me there’s an awful glint in her eye. And I pay such good attention too! As for that French, actually, Mother and Dad, flunking it was the best thing because I just don’t like it. Golly, what good will French Pa^hal Shoe Repair Co. Pursuit of Knowledge Geraldine Purcell, a senior Latin major, wrote a term paper for a history class taught by Mr. Leach. The subject was “The Acts of Defied Augustus”—magnitude in it self. But Gerry did the research for her paper by reading the source ma terial in Latin. Roses—Enough Anne Dungan is the second Salem- ite to make her bid for fame. A high- school sweetheart, who is in the army and is leaving for Germany sent Dune seventeen (17) dozen red roses. All of second floor Clewell has had a continuous Ferdinand orgy throughout the week. Do the French rhumba, do they have Carmen Miranda, do th(^y get cute songs like South American Way written about them. No. So now I’m all free to start in on Sj)anish. After all, the only rea son I was taking French was because I was so definitely (you know, seriously) interested in being a countess and all the time the man I had decided on—Count Basie— isn’t even a count at all. Mother, he isn’t even French! Well, I’m so glad all those un important things are off our minds. Now for the big issues! Bill is coming to the Valentine Dance this week-end and so I’ll need a few little things I left at home. My black evening dress, the blue and pink too in case I get bored with the idea of the black, my dark pan-cake makeup, the belt to my green wool, the rhinestone bracelets Dad gave you Christmas, Patsy’s new perfume (Mother, she won’t know the dill, and after all, I am her sister), my black evening gloves, twenty dollars, and Dad’s golf socks. You see we may decide not to go to the dance and go on a Cabin Party. Certainly do miss you all and am really applying myself, Dad. But I’ve got to stop now because the Viell’s rung, and Bill may come over tonight after I get back from the movie this afternoon. Love you all.
