T B^^^^EaEassn Page Four. THE SALEMITE Faculty Downs Students Twice Tlie faculty hurled a victorious score over the students in two highly excitin" basketball games last night. The women faculty members boast of a 27 to 23 win and the men of a 26 to 22 score. Both games provided thrills and chills; the tie between the men faculty and coeds at the end of their game, which necessitated a three minute over-play, was the climax of the event. The women’s game began fast and kept up its speed throughout. The faculty forwards showed accuracy in shoot ing and coordination in passing. Thefir methods of guarding were original and frightening; Goeth found a satisfactory way was to sit on the basket ball. Stout’s unusual way of passing the ball between her legs was highly successfvil as it made hei' opponents wonder for a moment what game was being played. She used this technique only once, however. Hewitt and Lewis made the last two faculty goals which decided the outcome. Lewis led in the number of points with 11 ; Stout, 10; Bryant, 9. Waterboys Hixson and Pyron attended the faculty player during the half with water, tow'el,-and stethescope. The crowi yelled for Byrd and Pangle, who came out on the court respe( tively pulling down a “short” gym suit and skipping. The men faculty-student game was characterized by “Never Mis^” Peterson’s long shots and “Dead-Eye” Evett’s eas shots. Student Transou on a foul shot made a rimless baske with one hand w’hich created quite some excitement. A wil shot of Peterson’s landed in the faculty bench on the head o Pyron. A tie of 22 at the official end of the game caused another thre minutes of play. The spectators w^ere beyond even the hyster ical stage. Peterson and Lerch made the four points an coed Sanderfer made a goal a few seconds after the last thre minutes were up. AVith a total of 12 points Peterson led th men, with Evett piling up 8, and Lerch, 6. The faculty cheer leaders went wild with joy and th students wen^ wild. In fact Wilson had trouble with her ha because of her vigorous gymnastics. Hedgecock and Ilortoi illustrated the hottest jitterbugging outside Harlem. Although infirm and tottering, the student cheer leader showed admirable spirit Portly Miss Gaither waved her arm ecstati-cally despite fur trimmed interference; the long blac skirt of Miss Patterson did not keep her from several lady like leaps. Although Misses Harrison, Carter, and Wray wer undoubtedly suffering from a form of rheumatiz, their voice were ^eard. Anies Day was everywhere helping everyone.
