[yjovember 3, 1967 THE SALEMITE Page TTiree |>]edda 0abler Introduces |s|ew Pierrette Techniques Home Ec Club Plans Project; Needs More Information The Pierrette crew and cast go Hons for Hedda Gabler. (Technical work for the Pierrettes’ fall production, Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, is nearing completion in the Dramatics Workshop. Over fifty people, a greater number than ever before, have been working on the sets, costumes, makeup, and publicity for the play. New tech niques, mainly with character makeup and set construction, are being introduced to improve the technical aspects of the theatre. ^The set for Hedda Gabler, which takes place in Norway at the turn of the century, consists of corduroy vifalls with crewel designs in felt, and “wood” paneling made of con tact paper. These new set mater- [ ials provide a more realistic set than the muslin formerly used in set construction. As Lee Torrence, set designer for Hedda Gabler says, auso, the heavy appearance of the set supports the leading character Hedda, who is an unfeminine wo man with expensive taste.” The intricate crewel design which deco rates the corduroy is a popular de sign in Norway because the warm Qplors of gold, orange, red, and t^irquoise, offset the cold Norwe gian weather. Lee has been able to use much imagination in her set design although she recalls basic ideas from her trip to Oslo two stomers ago. tikewise, costumes for Hedda (^bler have been designed to off set cold, dreary Norway. Colors range from lavender to vivid black and white stripe for the costumes of the four female characters in -Sports- (Continued from page 2) gun that Anne Cargill scored her third and last goal of the day. Yet we first became in volved in the Vietnamese war in 1949 on the side of the French who were endeavoring to reestablish their colonial control over Indo china. Were we for self-determin ation then, or were we simply a- gainst communism; how has the situation changed ? If I 'have misrepresented the Chaplain, I trust you will take the trouble to correct me. Would it be helpful to have an inter-disciplinary seminar on Vietnam next semester, non-credit, at the students’ insis- tance ?
